Watch: Giroud reacts after reaching 100 appearances for Milan: “I am proud and grateful”

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has reacted to reaching 100 appearances for the club, a milestone achieved when the Rossoneri faced Lecce in Salento before the most recent international break.

As reported by Milan News, Stefano Pioli ended the training session recently by calling the players together so they could congratulate the Frenchman on his achievement.

Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio were in attendance as well, and Furlani said the following to the former Arsenal and Chelsea striker: “Congratulations on behalf of the club and above all on behalf of all the AC Milan fans for the 100 matches.”

Giroud has always been very vocal about how proud he is to play for Milan and how much love he has for the club, and that is reflected in what he said after receiving congratulations from his team: “Thanks to everyone, thanks to the club, thanks to the coach, thanks to you guys, I am very proud of this and also very grateful to have the opportunity to enjoy it even at 37 years old. When I was younger I was a Milan fan. With all these great players who played for Milan… I’m very proud.”

Giroud was suspended for the last Serie A game against Fiorentina after the red card he received against Lecce, but he will be back in action tonight against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

    1. It would but his contribution so far in his 100 matches is 40 goals and 14 assists, not too shabby or for that matter unimpressive.

      1. Actually that’s a good stats, comparable to some of the better striker we have over the years, not in the best striker group like Sheva/Nordahl/Ibra but better than average.

        Giroud. 100 – 40 – 14
        Inzaghi. 300 -126 – 21
        Bierhoff. 91 – 36 – 17
        Pato. 150 – 63 – 18
        Tomasson 114 – 35 – 5
        Weah. 147 – 58 – 36

It’s not everyday we got strikers with stats like CR, Messi, Lewandowski, Suarez, Haaland. Giroud is great especially for the price we got him and the fact we buy him mainly as backup…

          1. bb ok wasnt really sure if your comment was meant negatively because he has indeed been a great acquisition for us.

        1. Absolutely and i’m not sayng otherwise, if he can stay fit and keep up his game and also accept maybe a bit different role he could stay for at least one more year if was up to me.

          1. Yeah, we’d definitely could use his goals next season too. And he might be more efficient too in the backup-role where he wouldn’t have to play 80-90mins per match twice a week. He’d get his (deserved) rest and not overdo it week after week.
