GdS: Giroud scare for Milan on eve of Napoli game – his condition and possible replacement

There is a late injury scare for AC Milan on the eve of their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Napoli, according to a report.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), striker Olivier Giroud started training yesterday at Milanello, but did not finish it due to a problem with the Achilles tendon in his left leg.

He sustained the issue in the first leg leg of the tie after a rough tackle by Kim. The Frenchman grit his teeth and finished last Wednesday’s match at San Siro, but the pain remained and his condition is keeping Stefano Pioli on his toes.

However, what filters from Milanello is confidence that Giroud will start tomorrow’s match at the Maradona. In arguably the most important game since he arrived at the club Milan need everyone, especially their No.9 who has given his best in the decisive matches.

In the event that he doesn’t make it back, there are two hypotheses: Ante Rebic and Divock Origi. There is not really much of a battle in this case though as Pioli would almost certainly choose the Croatian.

Rebic knows the way that Pioli wants to play inside out while Origi continues to struggle to adapt, while the former Eintracht Frankfurt man will also be better at exploiting the space left when Napoli push forward, opening up more counter-attacking opportunities.
