Giroud admits he is ‘starting to feel the anticipation’ ahead of the derby

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has admitted that the squad are starting to feel the anticipation ahead of the derby against Inter in 10 days.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has a report from Alessandro Grandesso who was at Clairefontaine where the French national team are based during their retreats.

Les Bleus are preparing for two games against Ireland (tomorrow evening at 20:45 CEST at the Parc des Princes in Paris) and Germany (next Tuesday 12 September in Dortmund).

The journalist spoke with Olivier Giroud and Marcus Thuram who of course play for Milan and Inter respectively and he tried to extract some statements from them in view of the derby which will pit the Rossoneri against the Nerazzurri at San Siro next Saturday 16 September.

The two players spoke – albeit briefly – at the end of training, during the autograph session with the fans who came to watch their national team train.

“Derby? We’re starting to feel the anticipation,” said Giroud, who started this season with four goals from the first three games, even if three of them were penalties.

“Who will score between me and Marcus? Let’s see…” commented Giroud. The 36-year-old scored a brace in the 2021-22 season and got a goal and an assist last season in derbies.

    1. Where is that? If anything, asking a 37 yo world cup winner if he is scared of derby is stupid. He already taste many derby, and have been a protagonist of Milan derby too.

He isn’t afraid, he just keep things in moderation because he is in national team now, and theres his teammate that is playing in Inter. Do you expect him to just say that Milan will beat Inter? Lol

  1. Funny you talk about stupidity and Giroud being a protagonist, Giround was in the Derby when Milan got whooped by inter. What did he do? absolutely nothing?

    1. So you just conveniently forget the win at the Scudetto season? Where his brace give us comeback that finally propel us to win Scudetto. If that is not protagonist then I don’t know what is.

Last season he still get 1 goals and 1 assist among those matches. That’s not nothing. He still contribute. And you talk about being scared. Now tell me where is the part in the article that showed Giroud afraid of Inter? Absolutely nothing?

      1. Keyboard warrior pipe down. It is a case of what ve you done for me lately. The CL derby Milan lost both leg. and before you jump unto your keyboard and type. I expected you to read and digest a comment before posting a reply. I wrote the word if. If is a condition. If Giroud is scared. It’s better he sits on the bench. being scared will not help Milan cause.

        1. “Do i sense fear here? If Giroud is scared, he should sit on the bench .”

Read your own comment again. You start your comment with “Do I sense fear here?” and I just ask you where is the fear mentioned in the article. If you don’t read it anywhere there’s no reason at all to mention condition that ‘Giroud is afraid he should stay at bench’

But yeah, think what you want. I’m out.

          1. I don’t know if you ve played football before, but as a player, there are times you get a feeling your team will be beaten. regardless of your ability. If you are sincere and anticipate things. there is sinking feeling that something might no go as plan, thus i causes fear. I don’t expect Giroud to say am scared. but it doesn’t mean he is confident. being too corky is bad, likewise being too scared can be detrimental to a team’s chance of getting victory. both extreme are bad and will help a team !!!

  2. Giroud is here ,he has no fear …
He will be ready to gun inter down …
He is the man ,,seriously though I do think the scuddeto will be between inter and us …
I just hope we have no injuries during international duty…

    1. I started reading this as a rhyme but by the third sentence I was disappointed when I realized it wasn’t lol 😂😂😂
Season is long. Giroud seems calm and it’s better to approach sometimes with humility because that’s when you’re most dangerous

  3. It’s interesting to see how people are already seeing us as favourites after 3 games. I have a feeling we will be very fragile if some of our key players lose form or get inbured. But we haven’t really gotten to see what our bench players can do yet. The games have already been decided when the subs have come on. Or as in the Roma game we were a man down and had to defend. The start of the game is always very different than the end. But yeah, let’s hope we have more variety and quality all round this season and can play good even when some players lose form.

    1. It did appear that in the last game they lowered the press to a man to man not too high up. I am guessing this was partly do to the team not lasting 90 the previous two games. It ended up not being tested because of the red but it seemed that some players were fresher towards the end.

I’m a bit more optimistic because it does seem like we are winning games with defense not offense and we have some depth. I would feel a lot more comfortable if he started rotating in some players for bigger chunks of time, but i dont think the next couple games is the time to do it…pulisic for example is important to the defense…even as a winger because RLC is not that mobile.

    2. I believe we have a good starting XI right now but the subs haven’t yet gotten up to speed. It will take time but let’s hope they can before the starters get injured. So yes in that sense we’re a bit fragile
