Giroud admits he is ‘starting to feel the anticipation’ ahead of the derby

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has admitted that the squad are starting to feel the anticipation ahead of the derby against Inter in 10 days.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has a report from Alessandro Grandesso who was at Clairefontaine where the French national team are based during their retreats.

Les Bleus are preparing for two games against Ireland (tomorrow evening at 20:45 CEST at the Parc des Princes in Paris) and Germany (next Tuesday 12 September in Dortmund).

The journalist spoke with Olivier Giroud and Marcus Thuram who of course play for Milan and Inter respectively and he tried to extract some statements from them in view of the derby which will pit the Rossoneri against the Nerazzurri at San Siro next Saturday 16 September.

The two players spoke – albeit briefly – at the end of training, during the autograph session with the fans who came to watch their national team train.

“Derby? We’re starting to feel the anticipation,” said Giroud, who started this season with four goals from the first three games, even if three of them were penalties.

“Who will score between me and Marcus? Let’s see…” commented Giroud. The 36-year-old scored a brace in the 2021-22 season and got a goal and an assist last season in derbies.
