Goal: Chelsea midfielder is Napoli-bound – why PSG and Milan withdrew from talks

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain have pulled out of the race to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea, with the midfielder now Napoli-bound.

After weeks and months of speculation regarding a potential return to the San Siro for Bakayoko, it seems that the 26-year-old will indeed be playing his football in Italy this season but not with Milan.

According to Goal reporter Nizaar Kinsella, Bakayoko will travel to Naples to undergo a medical on Sunday ahead of joining them on a season-long loan.

There is no option or obligation to buy inserted into the deal, just a £4.5m (around €5m) loan fee. The deal came about after PSG and Milan withdrew from talks due to Chelsea’s demands, which were deemed too high.

Meanwhile, it appears that Milan have focused their efforts on the defence instead, with Diogo Dalot having undergone his medical on Sunday ahead of joining on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

  1. Marc Roca is about to go to Bayern with 18 million €. We stuck all summer with Bakayoko. There are many good players out there to play at Milan’s midfield.

  2. Missing out on Roca for only 15M is horrible. What a steal for Bayern. Dalot on dry loan why? No option? Same problem as Diaz. Is Dalot better than Kalulu? Not sure but rather develop our own players vs developing for another club. If we cannot afford Kabak for 30m we are in trouble. Could have signed him last year for 15m. Why not Tobido – say he’s avail for 18-20M? We wanted him last year why not again? If Maldini is telling us we cannot spend 20M on a player we have little chance to qualify for CL…we just qualified for Europa and sold Paquetta – that’s 35M we can spend if Elliot allows it….
