CM: Gordon Singer attends Milan’s 125th anniversary party but Cardinale remains absent

A rather interesting bit of news has emerged regarding AC Milan’s 125th birthday party last night regarding who did and did not attend.

Calciomercato.com describe the event as a ‘party in a less than ideal climate’ given that there were protests going on outside from the Curva Sud. Some players even received chants against them as they arrived, while they called the management incompetent and told Gerry Cardinale to sell.

Speaking of Cardinale, the RedBird Capital No.1 was not present last night having also missed the game against Genoa on Sunday. The official reasoning for that was that he wished to leave the stage to those who have written the history of Milan.

However, his absence made noise as did the presence of Gordon Singer, which images from TeleLombardia confirmed. He heads the Elliott Management fund with his father Paul Singer and is still a member of the Board of Directors.

Gordon is sometimes spotted following games at San Siro or even away, as happened at the Santiago Bernabeu during the Champions League match against Real Madrid. He still feels quite attached to the club, having played a big part in running it during Elliott’s tenure.

His presence in itself is therefore not unusual, but it stands out if contrasted with Cardinale’s absence because the old owner was there but the current was not. We must add that the vendor loan situation must be monitored, because RedBird owe Elliott €700m by the summer.

  1. None of this makes sense first getting rid of a very experienced and important maldini who’s signed all out best players, then replace him with ibra who is a rookie and has never ever had a job in management, and then Gary cardinale not showing up to Milan’s most important game this season

    1. Dude, there is.
If you remember, Milan was in huge debts which was covered with sale to Red Bird. Red Bird invested 1,2bn, to increase value of the brand. And they did that also, by buying cheap players with potential. Now, only Milan squad is much more valuable than 5 years ago. And where are revenues ? Those are doubled.

Now Elliott still have some share in Milan plus 700 million of debt from Red Bird. Elliott earned 700 million in just couple of years running Milan.

And what about Red Bird? They invest 1,2bn of euros. Plus couple hundred Millions. If they want to sell Milan now, they can easily reach price of 2bn. If they manage to build new stadium they can sell Milan for at least 2,5bn or 3bn.

      That’s how you create money.

  2. If Cardinale wont show the decency to show up in Milano at the 125 aniversary or for that matter for the majority of matches that we plays then maybe its time for some American AC Milan fans to start protesting in front of his mansion or wherever he lives or occupies his time. Same can be said about the local rossoneri in regard of protesting in front of Ibra, Furlani and moncadas homes assumingly in Milano.

      1. Yeah that would definitely work as a clear signal to the ownership if the stadium emptied up but it would also be detrimental to the club at the same time beyond the ownership. Maybe something more symbolical like mass burnings of copies of season tickets would send a signal of what they might have to deal with down the road unless they actually do some heavy investments in January.

  3. I hope Redbird default the way Sunning did, Elliot were very competent owners, everyone believed they would ruin us as a vulture fund capitalists but they were much more ambitious than Redbirds first couple of years
