Government official confirms 100% stadium capacity must be allowed ‘as soon as possible’

After what has been a weird period, the fans are finally back in the stadiums albeit with a 50% cap, at least in Italy. However, luckily for AC Milan and the other clubs, the government will soon consider and increase.

Given the economic effects of Covid-19, it’s a no-brainer that clubs will need to have full capacity at the stadiums very soon. After all, box office revenue is a huge part of the flow and helps the clubs greatly.

Therefore, also with the use of green pass (vaccination), the government will soon consider an increase to the current 50% capacity cap. In an interview with Gazzetta, the Undersecretary of Sport Valentina Vezzali shared her thoughts.

“100%? It’s an objective that must be reached as soon as possible. The government will speak by the end of September, we still have some time to assess the progress of the epidemiological situation. I am optimistic: the capacity of 35% indoors and 50% outdoors is only a starting point,” she stated.

Promising words that indeed hint that this change could take place sooner rather than later. The most logical next step is perhaps around 70%, but of course the clubs and the fans wouldn’t say no to 100%.
