Graffiedi gives thoughts on Pioli’s future, crisis talk and Ibra’s return

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan followed up their win against Newcastle United in the Champions League by beating Monza 3-0 in Serie A on Sunday, and Mattia Graffiedi believes that the team can gain momentum from it.

Milan’s next game is away against rock-bottom side Salernitana on Friday and they will hope to make it three wins in a row across all competitions. If you feel like you know which way the game will go and you fancy a flutter, you should check out the best non-Gamstop no-deposit bonus deals.

MilanNews spoke to Mattia Graffiedi, a former Milan forward in the 1999-00 season, to get his thoughts on recent developments.

Have Milan emerged from the crisis?

“In my opinion it was also excessively talked about. In the end, Milan have always been there, fighting for the top positions. How can we talk about a crisis?”

From your point of view, does Pioli deserves to remain as head coach into next season?

“Against Newcastle and Monza, we saw a dominant Milan, absolute master of the pitch and the game. Let’s think about it carefully: if the team had been all against Pioli, as has been read and said, would they have played two consecutive games like this? I really don’t think so. In my opinion, the Milan of a year ago has definitively returned.”

Can the Rossoneri aspire to win the Scudetto?

“Meanwhile, with the revolution that has taken place, even the objective of qualifying for the Champions League would not represent a failure. Having said that, the Rossoneri are there, they can challenge for the Scudetto. It will depend on the next matches.”

How do you explain the many injuries that Milan have suffered this season?

“It’s normal, when you profoundly change the squad and take players from different leagues, that there may be a few more muscle injuries. Many underestimate how much the Italian league has increased in terms of physical intensity. It’s not that easy to adapt.”

Can Pioli’s team realistically aspire to win the Europa League?

“Pioli must think match after match in the Europa League, without taking anything for granted. Starting with Rennes, which is absolutely forbidden to underestimate. In the European field there are no mattress teams.”

Your point of view regarding Ibra’s return to the club?

“I was sure it would happen sooner or later. Ibra represents Milan. A personality like that, close to the team, is too important. The club was impeccable in convincing him.”
