‘Never say never’ – Grimaldo compares Milan to Real Madrid amid transfer links

This summer, AC Milan may look to sign another wing-back and Alex Grimaldo’s name has been suggested fairly regularly. 

In recent times, it has seemed that Milan will attack the mercato in a different way. There will, inevitably, be some younger names signed to appease the profitable and potential side of the club, which RedBird believes in.

However, there will also be experience added to the team. A number of suggestions have been made so far about free agents, but they will not be the only experienced options linked.

Grimaldo responds to Milan links

Recently, Grimaldo’s name has been put forward and whilst not a free agent, he could still be an opportunity for the Rossoneri. His deal expires next summer and Bayer Leverkusen may look to part ways for a cut price fee this summer.

Indeed, the reports suggested a figure around €10-15 million could be enough. He is certainly aware of the interest too, and MilanNews interviewed the Spaniard to ask him about the move.

Alex, there’s been more and more talk about AC Milan. Would you like to wear the Rossoneri jersey next season?

“I’m happy at Bayer Leverkusen. But Milan is one of the biggest clubs in Italy with an incredible stadium, fans, and team [laughs]. But I’m really happy in Germany. We’ll see…”

Is Milan the Real Madrid and Barcelona of Italy?

“Yes, exactly. As I said, Milan is one of the biggest clubs in Italy. If not the biggest… let’s see what happens this summer. But I repeat it for the umpteenth time: I’m happy at Bayer.”

But ‘nunca decir nunca’ as you say in Spain. Never say never…

“No, obviously not. We players want to play for the best clubs in the world, and Milan is a historic team. We’re talking about a club that always fights to win. In my eyes, Milan is an attractive club.”
