Guardian: Milan set their price for Tomori amid Newcastle interest

AC Milan have set a price of €40m for Fikayo Tomori which seems to have ended Newcastle United’s interest in the English defender unless some sort of compromise can be reached.

As reported by The Guardian in a piece about Arsenal and Chelsea’s pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, the club’s PSR issues were mentioned.

The Premier League side think that they can stay on the right side of the rules without selling Isak or Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, but it is certainly hindering their ability to spend as a price of €40m has been deemed too much for Tomori.

Milan have no interest in actively selling the player so there is little reason to think that a compromise can be reached between the two clubs.

If Newcastle were to sell a player for a big fee, then the situation could change as they would then have a greater margin to spend whilst staying within the rules. Their interest in Tomori appears to be genuine.

Milan are looking to add to their defence rather than take away from it, as Simon Kjaer needs to be replaced and there is a need for more quality depth to combat the injuries that many in the squad appear to be prone to.

        1. Gotta disagree with you there. Given his tendencies and proclivities for error Tomori is worth no more than 25 mil.

In my personal opinion, of course.

          1. He was the best defender in the league 2 years ago. Last season he was poor but he bounced back this year until he got injured.
Milan bought him for 30+ while he was a bench player at Chelsea. There is no way his value has gone down.
Also, Calafiori is prone to mistakes as well and he has had only 1 good season.
Fik has experience in EPL, Serie A and UCL.
So how is 1 valued at 40 but the other at 25 mil?
Fik is worth at minimum 40 mil especially if he is going back to EPL

          2. Acm1899 you are mad calafiori is nothing he is one season wonder nothing more tomori is reliable defender tomori is 60ml calafiori 15ml

          3. @Aschraf

Calafiori is a left footed CB who can drive forward and draw defenders out of position. None of our CBs can do that.

Having seen Tomori’s contributions and what Calafiori is capable of, I am more than willing to gamble on the Italian over the Englishman. If we can get 40 mil for him.

          4. Calafiori too made errors vs Spain and vs Albania. Dias, de Ligt, Upamecano etc have a full CV with errors. Even the highest rated defenders make mistakes. Tomori is worth around 50 mln.

        2. The Tomori from Scudetto season is worth 40mil. The one from the last two years, 25mil all day any day. Unfortunately, he has only had one stellar season at Milan. I’m still waiting for that player to come back.

          1. When Rodri does not play, Dias and Gvardiol look like second rate defenders. Without shielding from the the mildfield, even the best are prone to simple errors. That is why the role of the defensive mildfielder was created in the first place. Tomori has his issues and needs to mature, but in no way he is as bad as to be worth no more than 25 mln.

          2. Usually I refer to transfrmarket for guidance of the market value. Tomori’s currently at ~40M, having dropped from 50M during the Scudetto’s run. I think that’s a fair valuation IMHO, and if anything, we could have asked for a bit more considering he’s English. EPL teams usually would pay top dollars for that. If Newcastle doesn’t think he’s worth that much then it’s fine, but we also shouldn’t let him go if they only offered 25. Not at all.

          3. Some dude called Braithwaithe in England is getting valued at 80 million after one food season. Yet you say Tomori is worth 25 million maximum? How???

          1. A price no one will pay because he’s prone to mistakes. Tomori is 26. Calafiori is 22. Calafiori is much better on the ball and makes less mistakes, an own goal isn’t the same as losing a player on a set piece or stepping out, failing to make a tackle and then leaving the team exposed. Several clubs are linked to Calafiori for a reason, he’s been one of the new stars of the Euros. No one is really linked to Tomori because so far he’s had one very good season in his entire career.

  1. Look at that.
They have to sell to buy.
The club with by far the richest owners in football cannot just go and spend as much as they want. It doesn’t matter how rich the owners are but how much the club generates. That’s why it’s paramount to have influx of funds generated thru sales instead of losing players for nothing.
When it comes to Tomori, if Milan switches to zone defending instead of Pioli’s 1v1 then cashing in on Tomori is the right move.

    1. We should wait until the market opens before we start making judgments. Also most of these articles are just media rumors.

    2. You’re comparing Milan a few years ago when they were in debt and earned less revenues. Now there are no debt, big commercial deals, a huge boost in the US market, 19% of increase for the season pass but it seems that we’re still open to sell our best players. Fckin trading policy because Jerry watched a movie with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill one time…

      1. Open to sell for a big profit and then to reinvest is a sound strategy. Selling an above average English defender for a better Italian defender? Yes please.

    3. You can’t knock his passion, but agreed, if we could (effectively) swap him for Calafiori, I think it would be a nod from most

    4. Everything what you read until 1.7.2024 can be fake news 🙂 yes some of this topic is right but we will see what they want to do in summer mercato. I don’t think they want to sell some of our players like Tomori, Theo, Leao or Mike.. I think american owners don’t have the right feel and emotions for Calcio, but they know what they need to do for results and success. You need to notify this seasson we definitely don’t win the scudeto but it will be importent seasson for future, for next and bigger success

  2. I think in this market 40m would be an absolute steal for Newcastle for a player of Tomori’s quality, I’m surprised the asking price is that low TBH.

  3. LMAO!!!

And after all this Romano is reporting that Newcastle were actually wanting to discuss Thiaw, not Tomori. 🤣🤣🤣

  4. I’d sell Tomori. IMO Thiaw and Kalulu have more room for improvement. They had a bad season with Pioli but can become better players than Tomori, I believe.

    1. I disagree.

First let us get a proper DM first, then evaluate how our defenders rate after that. I don’t think our defenders are THAT bad, they are just playing in a system that exposed them and left no rooms for errors.

  5. Every one keep comment calafiori . After his good performance in euro and if italy win euro then his price will be 60-70m euro . ACM already missed chance since last season to buy him. Even if you sell tomori + thiaw , that wont be enough to buy calafiori . Dont forget bologna still have to pay FC Basel 40% resale for future sale calafiori
