Güler explains why he rejected ‘many offers’ to join Real Madrid

By Oliver Fisher -

Arda Güler has confirmed that he received offers from multiple clubs but once Real Madrid’s interest became serious he put the other proposals to one side.

The reliable Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported earlier in the week that Güler would decide which team he will join shortly with Milan, Real Madrid and Barcelona the three teams who had been in contact over the previous 48 hours.

It is Los Blancos who won the race, with the 18-year-old Turkish talent being unveiled as a new signing today. Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal is worth €20m plus add-ons, a 20% sell on clause as well as taxes and commissions.

Speaking at his official unveiling, Güler confirmed that there were other offers on the table but Real Madrid became the team he wanted to join once the possibility arose.

“There have been many offers, but my priority has always been Real Madrid,” he said (via MilanNews).

There was some talk of possibly returning to Fenerbahce on loan for the season, but that is something the teenager didn’t want.

“I feel ready, I want to work and I’ll try to give everything. I rule out the possibility of a loan: I want to stay here. If they give me the opportunity to play, I’ll try. That’s why I’m here, I don’t want to go to another team.”

Carlo Ancelotti’s phone call seemed to be decisive: “The coach called me and told me he wanted to see me live. He told me where he would employ me, we talked a lot.”

Responding to rumours of an offer from Barcelona, Güler added: “I repeat that many clubs have presented an offer. But as soon as Real Madrid appeared, everything else lost value, they didn’t even need to convince me.”

  1. Young midfielder touted to be a star choose to join Real Madrid and refused many offers from other clubs where he will be guaranteed more playing time. Then he refused to go out for loan and want to fight for his place among many older, world class players.

Sounds awfully familiar… with Odegaard. In the end he didn’t play much in Madrid, after 2 seasons in Castilla he finally started to go on loan to many clubs and finally sold to Arsenal last season…

I strongly think he won’t be much different with Odegaard.

    1. I agree with you, unfortunately. I also love Odegaard, and he would 100% start for Real Madrid right now, but he wasted a couple of years at that club. The same will happen to Arda Guler, maybe even worse.

    2. Yada, yada, yada… all because he didn’t sign for your favourite clubs.

The kid made his choice. The coach called him and they spoke. I’m sure he knows very well he’s not going to waltz straight into the team. so he seems ready to bide his time – whether he goes on loan for a few seasons on not.

I’m sure if Madrid sends him to Milan on loan, you probably won’t complain.

      1. Contrary to that, I’m not one that really want/think his transfer to Milan will happen – just said about what I think about this transfer.

From 1st time he is rumored to come for 17.5m I started to think this transfer won’t happen as we won’t paid that much for unproven players, when we have many holes to fill this summer – and we even got Romero, who’s a gamble himself – and played in more or less same space with Guler.

  2. If he wanted to play, the last place to go was Real Madrid. I bet my a$$ he will be loaned and as the comment above stated, a probable Odegaard situation in the works

  3. Phone call from Ancelotti convinced him of the move a despite Carlo leaving after next season.

Hmmmm….guess a call from Pioli didn’t have the same effect? Lol

Wonder if we still had a legend of the game and club with us call – similar to Carletto call – would Güler have changed his mind and signed for us instead??? Wonder who that could have been…hmmmmm🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 I mean it has never worked for us in the past LOLOLOLOLOLO – 🤪🤪🤪🤪

    1. What more can you possibly ask for.

Barcelona has a legend as a coach, yet couldn’t convince him.

If you’re tired of the club, go cheer for Inter.
This attitude is really really infuriating and annoying right now.

  4. Johnny Boy!!! How are you buddy?? Still haven’t changed that ugly mug of your eh kid lol.

Just stating the facts. Relax it’s only a joke lol. So sensitive. But I do think in these situations having a legend like Maldini courting you is better than Pioli. That is a fact. Anyways, Doesn’t matter now, on to the next target – but too bad we couldn’t get this kid.

For the record I would stop watching football before I would ever become an Inter fan lol.

    1. Don’t bother about the mug dude.
You should be bothered your avatar looks like you.

Do have any plans to stop watching football anytime soon?
I sometimes think you don’t anyway.

      LOLOLOLOLOLO
Don’t be so sensitive… Relax it’s only a joke lol!

LOLOLOLOLOLO LOLOLOLOLOLO LOLOLOLOLOLO LOLOLOLOLOLO LOLOLOLOLOLO LOLOLOLOLOLO LOLOLOLOLOLO LOLOLOLOLOLO

But seriously, you kinda sound different today, sure you okay?

  5. Similar to isco i think . Isco dont want to loaned out , choose to warming bench on Real madrid . After his contract expire at age 30 ,Real madrid release him ,he dont have club till now
