Gullit describes San Siro change and Hall of Fame induction: “I’m very proud”

Tonight, Ruud Gullit will collect his trophy for entering the AC Milan Hall of Fame and he spoke to the club’s media channels beforehand.

There are few figures in football who match the recognition of Gullit. In several nations, the Dutchman is an icon, more so with clubs that he presented. Of course, one of those is Milan, where he is more than fondly remembered.

In his first season at the club, he lifted the iconic Ballon d’Or award, before being named a runner up in his second season. However, that was a Rossoneri domination, with Marco van Basten and Frank Rijkaard finishing either side of him on the podium.

The trio remain icons in Milano and are immortalised by the ‘Tre Tulipani’ nickname. Now, with Gullit being inducted into the Hall of Fame before the game tonight, his name has been written even further into the club’s history.

Ahead of being presented with his award, he spoke to MilanTV, via MilanNews.

An important recognition…

“I’m very proud of this award, it means I’ve done something important in AC Milan’s history.”

Has San Siro changed?

“In our day, this pitch wasn’t that beautiful; they redid it when it was sand. Today, I see a San Siro and it’s incredible, it is beautiful. Italy has given me so much, so much. I’m proud to return to a stadium like this.”

About the team…

“I hope for a winning Milan. I’ve heard a lot of people complain about Allegri’s style of play, but I think Max did a great job because he instilled a winning mentality. It still takes time, though; it’s not easy, but little by little this team will grow.”
