Gundogan ‘getting closer to Milan’ – the bond that he has with Milano and Italy

By Oliver Fisher -

There has been speculation in the media today that Ilkay Gundogan is a target for AC Milan, with the Manchester City midfielder’s contract set to expire at the end of the month.

As MilanNews writes, it was this morning that Corriere dello Sport director Ivan Zazzaroni told Radio Dee Jay that the midfielder would like to move to Italy: “I think Gundogan wants to come to Italy, from what we know he is getting closer to Milan.”

There are more than just footballing reasons that Gundogan might be enticed by the idea of a move to Milan. In June last year, he married Sara Benamira, a well-known model and TV presenter of Tunisian origins who began her modeling career in Milan.

The location chosen – in great secrecy – was Villa Borromeo in Cassano d’Adda in Lombardy, about 30km from Milaneo. On March 15 of this year the couple had a son, Kais Gundogan, who was born in Milan. The couple are therefore linked to Italy for emotional issues.

Some time ago the model – who has a large following on social media – unleashed quite a fuss when answering questions from followers about food in the UK.

“I’m sorry to be honest, but nobody. I’m tired of not finding a good restaurant, the food is horrible everywhere. I can’t find a real Italian restaurant or good sushi or even fresh food… it’s all frozen,” she said.

“The restaurants here focus on making money with drinks, they are all nightclubs, they don’t focus on quality food Maybe in London but nothing in Manchester. I’m sorry.”

  1. Depends on salary but it’s not a bad experienced signing on a free. Him, Kamada, and Frattesi we’d be all set in midfield with him, tonali, bennnacer, and pobega/krunic. Send Adli on loan, return Vranckx. Then focus on RW and striker and some young backups for depth.

  2. Meanwhile we have 2 midfielder worth $35+10M rotting in the bench. Why are we buying another to rot here? We need right winger and striker.

    1. Who is rotting on the bench? LOL. We have one midfielder that had surgery and is out for six months. Get a grip.

    2. This is pure speculation. He is accomplished as well and has nothing to prove. He will probably go to the highest bidder and not to Milan. I rather have him than paying for Diaz to be absolutely honest. Ibra and Rebic are also leaving, so with Diaz gone there is 12 million free in wages. I wouldn’t mind him at all. That would actually be an upgrade. Kamada can play double pivot as well.

  3. I’d rather take free transfer for high experience than young unproven player with tiktok mentality. I just had enough with young promising bs. We need champion mentality. We have enough young talented player and enough young flop player. It is time to bring experience to the team. Spend on free transfer (okay with agent fee, before all transfer guru b*stard in this site start to shout) and use your money hard earned money to extend key players

    1. GA cuma agent fee Bang, ada pajak juga, kalau gaji €8m Maka pajaknya €2.5m (cuma segini karena tx growth decree), belum ditambah biaya agent Sama bonus untuk tanda tangan (signing fee).

All in all bisa sampaikan 15juta untuk musim pertama itu, apalagi Kalo gajinya lebih tinggi lagi

  4. Another reminder that If Italian bureaucracy can stop holding up clubs in their efforts to be up with the times when it comes to modern infrastructure and logistics, serie A in no time will go back to being the best league in the world.
Players will come to Italy for more than just the football and the money, like they do now in EPL.
Great weather, great food great lifestyle. Italy has natural advantages over England, but they need to modernize. There is no logical explanation why Milan has been trying for over a decade to build their own stadium and still is in the same position as it was when it began.
The last stadium that was built in Italy was Juventus stadium and that was over a decade ago too.

  5. his salaary is 7.2 mil pounds a year in city so he would have to lower his demands fairly significantly but personally if he is in any way attainable for us id get him no question there.
The fact that his wife seems unhappy in england coud easily play a part in it, Shevchenko didnt want to leave us but his wife preferred to live in england so he accepted the offer and transfered to chelsea.
Either way he is 32 and has earned a lot of money over the years so it might be feasible but i wont get my hopes up too high at the moment.

      1. yeah but wouldnt it mean that the growth decree could limit it a fair share of his salary to begin with and if they actually wants to live in milano it could further help in slacking on his demands ?
Anyways as i said i wont get up my hopes up too high at this current moment.

        1. “but wouldnt it mean that the growth decree could limit it a fair share of his salary to begin with”

You don’t understand how the Growth Decree works, do you?

          1. ive read the the article but not really grasping it fully but if players arrive from abroad and signs two year contracts there are some kind of discount on the wages rtight ?

  6. Doubt this will ever happens. Barca want him as well. He makes 10M a season currently and while he’s 32 and will likely take a pay cut his next deal – doubt he accepts a 4M season wage cap deal unless he and his wife really love the pasta in Italy 🤪🤪🤪. Would be an excellent signing even at 32 but I wouldn’t get our hopes up to high.

  7. Can’t say no to this, and anyone who is has never watched the Prem. He would be our second best player straight away. He has JUST score two goals in the FA cup final. He brings composure and quality we lack.

Won’t happen, he’ll stay at City (making my Mancunian children very happy), but if it’s even remotely possible it would be amazing.

  8. Dream signing imo – and even if it doesn’t happen at least it’s showing our intent to seriously upgrade the quality of this squad. I have a feeling a real quality player like this guy or SMS will arrive. Milan know they can’t afford anymore screwups this mercato.

  9. For a free transfer, this would make sense. But he’s well past his prime. Lets keep it real. This isn’t the same player I wanted in 2016.

    1. Probably could still eke out at least 2-3 years outta him considering how he carried the current City team.

I don’t think we could sign him in 2016, and I don’t think we could sign him now. But I am of course willing to be proven wrong.

  10. He is still good even age 32. If he can accept 4m euro nett / season then lets sign him . But with barca want him too , probably barca can offer 6-7m euro nett .
