This weekend, AC Milan earned a narrow victory, thanks to a late penalty from Rafael Leao. However, it has been open to criticism.
Milan were on the right side of a decision this week, but they have certainly been on the wrong side of them, too. For example, look at Christopher Nkunku’s chance against Bologna, which should have been a penalty.

On this occasion, the Rossoneri perhaps get slightly lucky, but things even themselves out over a season. Given the earlier decision, perhaps it is a good thing that the Nkunku penalty was not awarded.
Consequences and disagreements
For Gianluca Rocchi, the head refereeing officer, the decision was incorrect, though, and there will be some consequences as Corriere dello Sport reports, via Calciomercato.
“It’s not a penalty and it doesn’t deserve VAR.”
Marinelli and Bisso will both be suspended from refereeing for a game or maybe even two; however, the VAR team will face no consequences, at least it seems not at this moment. It is certainly a decision that has caused a lot of discussion.
Because you said so? No explanation. Parisi was miles behind Santi, had no chance at the ball, and reached out and touched the players face neck and shoulder. That’s a foul and a yellow anywhere on the pitch.

The incident decided whether it was a penalty or not. The head refereeing officer’s words mean nothing in the aftermath. It was a penalty for what happened. And to Parisi: Do-not-touch-the-opponent-in-the-face.
That wasn’t the penalty, but him being pulled by the collar of his jersey.
Pulling by the collar of opponent’s jersey is against the rules too. So it’s still a penalty.

The penalty was a bit soft, but not totally unjustifiable.

I think the Head of the the Referee team needs glasses if his eyes is getting weak. If the penalty wasn’t given he will be the one to say it was a penalty. Please go retire or step because of vision or eyes problem
Perhaps this head referee can enlighten us an explain why it’s not a penalty instead of just saying “It’s not a penalty and it doesn’t deserve VAR.”. Was it a bit soft and did Giménez exagerrate his reaction ? Maybe, but he was still pulled so foul.
Was there a foul for Fiorentina before the penalty ? He doesn’t seem to imply that that’s the case.
Moreover I know this guy. Check all the matches he officiated against Milan during his time he always give penalties to Juventus and he’s the one that brought about Juventus nickname in those days (extra minutes until Juventus scores)
Garbage man. He’s full of cheats and should be ashamed to say it wasn’t penalty. Maybe he was watching the game with his ears instead of eyes

On slow motion it is a penalty, but in real time, its very very soft. Anyhow, Im tired of VAR going against us, and I do not mind a decision like this from time to time.
P.S. penalty or not, we would have scored the wining goal, pretty sure about it.
I’d say if it was a case against Milan I wouldn’t be happy about it, but wouldn’t be surprised or angry at all for the VAR intervention.
Instead I would be very angry at the dummkopf who deliberately tried to stop a player with a hand to the face. That was a major brain fart from Parisi.
Also I would be really really angry if my player received a yellow for the same situation in the midfield (where intent was not even visible), but it’s not considered a foul in the penalty area.
And apart from this situation – the ref had a terrible day. At the end I think we benefited more from him, but a lot of tension was due to his various erroneous small and not so small decisions.
Modric deserved a yellow and only his name spared him. I also still don’t understand what was the reasoning behind giving the ball to Maignan after he stopped the dangerous Fiorentina attack.
Many fouls and advantages were not given to both sides.
This is a controversy out of nothing. The ref was calling soft stuff all night and was a bad at managing the flow of the game. However he wasn’t terrible and his call in the box was consistent with a call in the field.
This is a reflection of how totally ill equipped the FIGC and the AIA are. The amount of variation between refs is insane. Each ref seems to have their own unique interpretation of the rules. It’s literally like watch rec league refs. Serie A is a joke, the Italian media isn’t far behind, making everything a controversy because they lack any journalistic skills.

The head of the referees is either brain death or living on another planet. One thing for sure is “that empty vessels make most sound” and he is just that ….. empty brains. Regardless of whether the penalty was or not doesn’t matter as the time will come when AC will cop a penalty against them which in all probabilities shouldn’t be awarded.
