AC Milan’s attempts to lure Mattia Liberali back to the club have ultimately failed as the forward is heading for Como after all.
Throughout the last 48 hours there have been numerous reports claiming that Milan have moved to hijack both Como and Sassuolo’s attempts to land Liberali, with both sides believed to be quite advanced in discussions.

Milan were helped by the fact they have a 50% resale clause and that Liberali had a €6m release clause, so they could have got him for €3m. However, they had to try and personally convince a player who 12 months ago chose to leave the Rossoneri.
Liberali to Como: Here we go!
Now, Fabrizio Romano has stated the following: “Como have agreed deal to sign Mattia Liberali, here we go! Italian talent to join Fabregas project and play Champions League football next season.
“€6m move with release clause to be activated today, as revealed yesterday. Liberali spoke to four clubs but picks Como.”
It comes after reports earlier in the day which claimed that Gerry Cardinale and the Milan management held ‘positive talks’ with Liberali and his entourage. They were not positive enough, it seems.

Italia is not San Marino, there are better center backs available. Milan needs to field the best of the best which includes Italian players as well. Are you seriously telling me Gabbia is the best we can do when it comes to (the) domestic options? He mustn’t feature at all IF and WHEN he doesn’t deserve it, so if we can get a better player than him (and I’m sure that is within our reach and the realms of possibility), we should take every opportunity we can get and grab it by the horns, we have no time to waste anymore, actually, we are already very behind. As for Ricci, nothing is given, he needs to prove himself and very soon show (to) everyone that he is worthy of Milan because his first season at “San Siro” was not up to par, not even in the slightest.

In my opinion, he’s simply not ready for Serie A. Beyond his ability, his attitude has also raised questions. If a player doesn’t respect and take pride in wearing the AC Milan shirt, then I’d rather see the club move on than bring him back.
More broadly, I think Italian youth development needs serious improvement. Too many young players seem to believe they’ve already made it before proving themselves at the highest level. They should earn that reputation through performances, hard work, and consistency—not hype.
Respect and pride for the Milan shirt is a thing of the past, now that the club has been utterly destroyed by the owner and managers.
Players have a career to worry about. Football careers are short. Players will naturally be weary of joining a club with confused leadership, little athletic ambition, an interfering and sabotaging bufoon like Ibra, who effectively became a mid-table team with no European credentials.
What pride? We once were a club with a prestigious history. That history now belongs to the past. Only after this disastrous owner finally decides to sell the club, we may slowly improve again and recover our prestige. As of now, there is no prestige whatsoever. We are widely seen as has-beens who are in free fall.
Read it again. My main point is that, based on what he’s shown so far, Liberali is simply not good enough to wear the AC Milan shirt. What has he done to earn a place in Milan’s squad? What has he accomplished?
Just because he’s Italian doesn’t mean Milan should bring him back. I remember when we had seven Italians in the starting lineup—players like Cerci, Constant, and Borriello—and we still finished outside the top seven.
Let’s stop judging players based on their nationality and start judging them on their quality. If Liberali develops into a player who is good enough for AC Milan, then absolutely, Milan should go after him. But he should earn that opportunity through his performances, not because of his passport.
It’s said that he left because Ibra (still confused on the influence he has in Milan) didn’t believe in his potential. That’s why he left Milan in permanent basis, a pretty weird outcome for a player who was touted as one of the best Milan young talents. And the way Ibra somehow is still in the management, making the come back seems impossible, cited by several journalists too.

Predictable. The kid would be crazy if he decided to join Milan with our erratic leadership and Ibra interfering and sabotaging things, rather than play for up-and-coming Como who have clarity in their plans, and will play Champions League football.
Truth be told, as much as it pains lifelong fans like me who remember the good times, we are no longer attractive. Players and agents now don’t care for our prestigious history. They see the present: incompetent and confused owner and managers who make one mistake after the other, resulting in the utter distruction of the club, which is merely a shadow of its former self, and effectively a mid-table team who is little more than a farm team bent on developing unknown players to sell them later for profit. We turned into Atalanta but without Gasperini. RedBird and Cardinale have destroyed AC Milan, and everybody is now turned off by the situation and are unwilling to join the club. We saw how top coaches and top sporting directors have repeatedly said “no” to Cardinale. Players and their agents will have the same reaction. Very rarely, good players will want to join.
Ramos joined. However his once excellent career has been marred lately by injury and he was reduced to a back-up role in his last club, so maybe Milan looks to him like a life-saving opportunity. But it remains to be seen if he will continue to decline and be another Nkunku, or will actually recover his good form and succeed with us. I’m less surprised that a player in his situation was wiling to join, but I’m not optimistic about top players joinging.
Not that I personally think that Liberali is such a good player. I think he is more hype than anything and still a young player with good potential but whose potential hasn’t been proven yet. It remains to be seen if he will actually fulfill his potential with Como. A couple of good pre-season games for Milan and a couple of good games with a Serie B team (with a disastrous showing with Futuro in-between) don’t prove much. Maybe he will be good for Como, but maybe not. But for a product of the Milan academy to reject the club, is further proof of how low we have fallen.
My guess is that he was not going to be guaranteed the amount of playing time he wanted.
Como will fit him also though, so all the best to him.
Milan meanwhile can move on to other issues.

Can’t recall the last time Italy produced a truly exciting WC youngster? Donnarumma? and maybe Tonali and Balotelli? Liberali does not appear to have the talent that those players had at his age.

Milan should look towards the African teams in the world cup, Loads of Talents on display there. absolute quality in DRC, Ivory Coast and Senegal. Also Cape Verde has some top guys. Im sure we can sign a titan right back or left back.
