Hernandez discusses four years at Milan and his growth: “I’m very proud”

By Isak Möller -

Theo Hernandez has been a key player for AC Milan in the last three seasons, now the vice-captain of the club. His growth has been commendable and in a recent interview, the left-back discusses his time with the Rossoneri.

Hernandez arrived at the club back in 2019 and Milan paid just €20m for his services. Four years later, he’s considered one of the best left-backs in the world. Naturally, that deal has been labelled as a bargain for the Rossoneri.

The 26-year-old is currently on international duty with the French national team and he was interviewed by Telefoot today (via MilanNews). When asked about his time at Milan, he stated that he is ‘very proud’ and that he wants to continue to grow.

His time at Milan…

“It’s true that I’ve been there for a long time, now I’m the vice-captain. I’m very proud to be at Milan. Now I have to continue like this, I have to work every day.”

His growth and change since he left Spain…

“I have changed, 3-4 years have passed. Since I had my son I have changed in every aspect. In life, in football, in everything. I’m very happy, as is normal.”

France will take on Gibraltar as well as Greece in the Euro Qualifiers and Hernandez will certainly feature in at least one of these games. Milan are hoping that he won’t sustain any injuries, as with any of their players out on international duty.

  1. Acmilan should use Colombo or carmanda instead of jovic but now Geroud is suspended will should use Okafor for centre forward then us pulisic to play leao wing if leao is not available but if leao is available then use leao, pulisic and chukwueze in the 4-2-3-1 formation I believe Pioli can recover from crisis that I’m solidly sure

  2. Theo Hernandez play this season like a average player . Nothing special. His level of play has dropped a lot from years past . I would sell him next summer for 50+ million without thinking twice. Last summer we should have brought Carlos Augusto for 13 million and not let Inter take him. Big mistake. Theo Hernandez seems like a capped player without ambition to me.

    1. Your right, he has really stalled. I am tired of his attitude, his il-discipline, his rolling around faking injury costing us a win and his general malaise.

Imagine aa player with his abilities who worked hard, showed leadership, played with integrity, oh right that’s Maldini
This bum needs to wake up

    2. Thei is suffering from having been overworked since his first day at the club. Milan’s system is already physically demanding and we haven’t had a real substitute at left back almost since Theo was signed. The club has really demanded far more from Theo than any other left back in world football. This has been warranted because of Theo’s abilities and insane physical condition, but after awhile he was always gonna crash hard at some point – especially this season where he has to cover more space without much help from an out-of-form Leao. Same thing was starting to happen with Tonali because he had to play every single game and had to cover for Bennacer who was being bullied at central midfield. Milan needs more cover for their star players because otherwise everyone of them will start to loose steam with Milan’s demanding style of play. Theo has been the hardest worker in the team for a long time and now he probably still is but with less margin. We were just incredibly spoiled with Theo until now

  3. Would be great if Theo stopped being a ballerina and started playing football again. His acting skills is what cost us 2 points against Lecce.

Man up, it’s a contact sport.
