Hernandez: “Giampaolo is very aggressive and intense; goals for the season?…”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez has revealed that he is itching to get back onto the field as he continues his recovery from injury.

Hernandez joined the Rossoneri from Real Madrid in a €20million deal earlier this summer, becoming the first signing officially announced by the club.

After an encouraging start to preseason action, the Frenchman then suffered an ankle problem during the International Champions Cup game against Bayern Munich.

That injury has kept him out of the first two rounds of the season so far, but it is possible that he could make his competitive debut for the club against Hellas Verona on September 15.

The 21-year-old has given an interview to Milan TV about his recovery progress and his life so far as a member of the Diavolo.

“I’m very comfortable, at ease, the recovery proceeds slowly but positively. I really want to go back to play,” he said, via MilanNews.it.

“I am very happy to be at Milan, I am very happy with my teammates, staff and everyone. I want to get back on the pitch, I had a bit of bad luck with this injury but I am things that happen in football.

“I have bonded with everyone, and although my Italian is not great, we can understand it. With the whole group I feel good, I have excellent companions.

“Our goal is first of all to arrive in the Champions League and from there aim even higher. We are a great team, a complete squad, with the support of our fans we can do it.

“In this team everyone has great quality and they are great players”.

On his favourite team-mate so far: “I have great fun with Samu Castillejo.”

“The number 19? I took it because it is the same as my brother’s. I also wore it last season and, since it was free, I decided to take it.

“I didn’t know Giampaolo but he is a very good coach. In training he is very aggressive, very intense. With him and with this rose we will do good things.

“I spent two positive and peaceful months here. I will soon move into my home after spending the first time in the hotel.”

As for learning the lingo?

“I didn’t learn many words in Italian, the only thing I can say is ‘very beautiful’.”
