Maxim De Cuyper’s name has been on the lips of several European clubs in recent months, but AC Milan are determined to bring him to the club as Theo Hernandez’s heir.
The past two seasons of Theo have been below the impressive standard that he has shown in recent years, and whilst there have been occasional displays of positivity, the larger picture has not been immensely brilliant.
Once upon a time, the Frenchman was deemed one of the best full-backs in the world, a title that now seems a million miles away. So, the club must look forward, past Theo.
As Calciomercato.com report, the idea for the future is De Cuyper, who could arrive for a fee similar to that which brought his senior from Real Madrid in 2019 – in the region of €20 million. A fee that seems very generous.
On Sunday night, whilst the Frenchman missed a penalty, the Belgian was proving himself once again, having an instant impact from the bench against Ukraine. There were just a few hundred kilometres between the two, but next season, that distance could be minimised.
According to the report, the Diavolo want to bring the youngster to the club regardless of Theo’s situation, and even if the defender renews, the 24-year-old would ideally arrive, though Arsenal, Juventus and West Ham all have a keen interest also, which could make the attempt more difficult.
Maxime had a great international break. Bring him in!
de Cuyper, Coppola, Lucumi, Ricci, Tonali
Would love to see Tonali next season, buy I don’t think we will. Maybe 2027 or 2028.
Tonali won’t come back with this management
Varela or Frendrup would also work
He is Arsenals first choice now. So they will tell him he should pick Milan but they don’t know if Theo is staying? Top stuff, as expected. He will not join Milan, you can bet your house on it.
Why would Arsenal buy another left back when they have 5? And who would go there to compete with Lewis-Skelly, Calafiori, Zinchenko, Tierny and Kiwior?
If anything Arsenal need to sell 2-3 left backs depending on what they see Kiwior as (LB or CB).
If I were De Cuyper I would see a much bigger chance oof minutes on the field in Milan, then in Arsenal.
Why would he choose Milan? If he’s good enough, he’ll have tons of options.
