Hernandez thrilled with late winner and comments on Maldini’s hug: “It’s fantastic”

Theo Hernandez was the big hero for Milan this evening, helping them preserve the league lead ahead of Inter. After losing a two-goal lead to Lazio, the Rossoneri got their last-minute winner through the French left-back.

As Inter managed to beat Hellas Verona earlier this evening, the pressure was on Milan to keep their lead at the top of the standings. It started out well, with two goals, but then they conceded two and Hernandez was forced to come to the aid.

After the game, and the wild celebrations on the pitch (which were totally justified), Hernandez spoke to the microphones of DAZN, as cited by MilanNews. He was obviously happy, albeit said that the fans couldn’t be present at San Siro.

What’s going on in your head now?

“A special goal, it’s a pity we didn’t celebrate the end of a truly incredible year with the fans.”

The hug with Maldini at the end of the match…

“He’s the best full-back in history, it’s fantastic that he comes and hugs me. We fought until the end and it was worth it, Lazio are a great team.”

Are you aware of your value?

“I work every day to become the best in the world. I have to thank my teammates because they give me a great hand.”

The Rossoneri will now have a short Christmas break before taking on Benevento on January 3rd. Hernandez will miss the game as he was booked tonight, but at least that means he won’t miss the Juventus clash.
