AC Milan are closing in on being able to announce their third summer signing as a deal has been agreed for Sankhoun Diawara.

Diawara hadn’t been linked with Milan at all until two days ago, when it emerged that the management were trying to hijack his proposed move to Rangers. It was a successful mission, as Fabrizio Romano gave the ‘here we go’ on Thursday night.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Romano went on to explain a bit more about why the Rossoneri decided to act quickly and seal the €2m operation, citing the potential the player has compared to the price he was available for.

It was initially reported that the 20-year-old would be a signing for Milan Futuro, but the fact that he is a France U19 international and was a started for a team that got promoted to Ligue 1 made that unlikely. So, it now it is being claimed he will be Strahinja Pavlovic’s deputy in the first team.

While our own scouting report is in the works, what we know is that Diawara is a defender with big potential. He is left-footed and is already physically imposing, having won 67% of his duels and 74.1% of his aerial duels last season.

Thus, he seems more of a fit for the centre-back role in a back three rather than as a wing-back, which has been suggested by some.
