A return that brought good luck: How Cardinale experienced Milan’s derby win

Gerry Cardinale was back in the stands at San Siro after a long absence, and he got to see AC Milan win the derby against Inter.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recall, the last derby that Cardinale watched in person ended in the worst possible way: it was a defeat and the one that clinched the Scudetto for Inter, giving them the second star first.

Since that night on 22 April 2024, Cardinale hadn’t seen a derby live, and he chose the right one to return to San Siro. He saw a victory for the Rossoneri and a potentially rekindled race for the title, given the gap is now seven points.

After visiting the team on Saturday at Milanello, yesterday the cameras captured the RedBird Capital founder looking happy at the end of the match, along with his partner, daughter and other officials. He then went down to the dressing room, congratulated the team, and expressed his pride in their performance.

Milan are always at the center of his thoughts. Under his management, the derby tradition is positive, and in the last seven matches against their cousins, the Rossoneri have won five and drawn two.

A positive derby night

We have also learned that Cardinale shared the pre-match experience with all the key figures of Milan, RedBird and several club guests.

The American businessman watched the game closely from the stands alongside the Rossoneri management, with an outburst of joy after Pervis Estupiñán’s goal that decided the contest. In that moment, he high-fived Franco Baresi too.

In addition to praising the team for the way they played, Cardinale also expressed his closeness and support for Milan’s present and future in the changing room too, amid an increased presence at the training complex too.

    1. I thought it was for them too but at the same time Bastoni was kicking the goal-kick so I think it was actually for him instead.
