Four-man defence, doubt up front: How Dortmund should line up against Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

Some team news is emerging on the eve of Borussia Dortmund versus AC Milan in the Champions League group stages, with the home side particularly hard to try and predict.

Radio Rossonera write that Dortmund boss Edin Terzic has almost the entire team available with everyone fit except for the Belgian full-back Thomas Meunier and midfielder Marcel Sabitzer being a doubt.

BVB are expected to return to a four-man defence after the 3-5-2 and 3-4-2-1 experiments in the Bundesliga. Kobel should be in goal with Ryerson on the right, captain Hummels and Schlotterbeck in the centre with Bensebainion the left-back.

With Sabitzer doubtful due to a groin problem, Terzic should field Özcan and Nmecha as the starting double pivot, despite the fact Emre Can has played in each of their six league games so far this season.

The striker leading the attack will be either Sebastien Haller or Niklas Füllkrug and supporting him should be their joint-top scorer Donyell Malen, with the other joint-top scorer Marco Reus in the centre and Julian Brandt on the left.

However, watch out for surprises with the line-up, given the talent available to Dortmund with the likes of Karim Adeyemi, Youssoufa Moukoko, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (fresh from renewal) and Giovanni Reyna on the bench, plus Terzic’s tendency to change formation a lot.

Probable Dortmund XI (4-2-3-1): Kobel; Ryerson, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Nmecha, Özcan; Malen, Reus, Brandt; Haller/Füllkrug.
