Ibrahimovic reveals admiration for Bayern Munich and thoughts on ‘political’ Ballon d’Or

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted that he has always been ‘curious’ about the idea of playing in the Bundesliga and shared his thoughts on why he is yet to win a Ballon d’Or.

Ibrahimovic has tried almost every major European league having played for Malmo, Ajax, Inter, Juventus, Barcelona, Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United in his illustrious career, but at the moment he is yet to play in the Bundesliga.

The Milan striker spoke to German newspaper Bild about the German league and admitted that the idea of joining a club like Bayern Munich has appealed to him in the past.

“I was curious about the Bundesliga. You have a team like Bayern Munich, an incredible club. Every time I played against them you could see the facilities, the stadium, the organisation. The history of the club is quite impressive,” he said (via MilanNews).

In addition to having a wide range of experiences within football, the 40-year-old Swede has won almost every major trophy there is to win but he is yet to conquer the Ballon d’Or, having shared the spotlight with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“These prizes are political. They want Mr. Perfect. If you talk and say what you want, you don’t get these kinds of prizes. It’s easy to give them to someone who is Mr. Nice Guy. Nothing changes for me. It doesn’t makes me better or worse.”

  1. When he was at his prime, at Milan or at PSG, people kept saying he needs to lead the team to Champions League victory, that would have given him the Ballon Dor.
But the reality is Zlatan doesn’t need the Ballon dor, he’s still a great player and will remain in people’s minds for years and years to come.

Remember many great players like Maradona, Savicevic, Raul, Laudrop, Baresi, Maldini, Totti, Del Piero, etc. never won the Ballon dor either.

Zlatan doesn’t need the ballon dor.
