Tuttosport: Ibrahimovic behind Leao’s change in media strategy – the reconstruction

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly played a role in Rafael Leao’s decision to walk back his public desire to leave AC Milan.

Leao gave an interview to Portuguese television which was released at the end of the season in which he declared his wish to leave Milan after seven years and try something new. After scoring in Portugal-Uzbekistan earlier in the week, there seemed to be a softening of this stance.

Zlatan’s call

According to Tuttosport (via MilanVibes), the Portuguese winger was contacted by Zlatan Ibrahimovic after that flurry of interviews to reconsider his blunt comments regarding his future at Milan.

The Swede has always been very careful with Leao, perhaps a little too much, as evidenced by his calls this spring to pit him against coach Massimiliano Allegri’s tactical and technical dictates.

However, this very relationship may have prompted the subsequent call with Ruben Amorim. As Sky reported, this first discussion between the compatriots was purely to extend courtesy, but nevertheless represents a step toward moderation.

Now, eyes are on Leao’s ongoing World Cup campaign in North America and whether he starts the match against Colombia, who overcame Congo and Uzbekistan to lead the group.

The former Lille man scored off the bench in the second group game certainly has a better chance of fighting for a starting spot, with Pedro Neto and Joao Felix not convincing either.
