There was another on-air disagreement between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Zvonimir Boban after AC Milan’s Champions League exit last night.
As a reminder, earlier in the season Boban questioned what Zlatan’s role at Milan is, given that he returned as a Senior Advisor which is not a position that holds a set list of responsibilities like a CEO or a sporting director and therefore gives a broad but also quite vague scope.
Prior to Milan’s first Champions League game of the season, Ibrahimovic and Boban shared quite a spiky exchange while the Swede was being interviewed by Sky. Since then, Boban has heavily criticised the management for the running of the club.
At the end of Milan-Feyenoord, the pair came face-to-face again on Sky. The Croatian, from the Sky studios, asked the Swede for a comparison between the current Milan and the one that won the Scudetto, with MilanNews relaying the exchange.
Ibrahimovic: “I retired, I’m 42 years old… I played in that team and I can say that this team today has more chances of winning: it is twice as strong. We won with that team but this one is better in terms of quality.”
Boban: “It needs balance. They had an extraordinary midfield: Bennacer, Kessie and Tonali… There was Saelemaekers who gave balance, Theo and Leao were different. And it was dismantled. Ibra knew the team, which is why I find it curious [that he says that this Milan is twice as strong].
“Gimenez and Walker would have been top, without all these other signings. That team won the Scudetto and reached the Champions League semi-finals.”
He has a point. Imagine the scudetto-winning team with Gimenez, Jimenez & Walker. We’d be competing for the scudetto each year. Instead of being 7th and getting knocked out early in UCL.
Who to blame? 😀 😀 😀
Wasn’t this what Maldini said in an interview? That the club needs an investment in a few good players to complete the team. He was fired for that and clowns here have been insulting him for years.
💯💯💯💯💯💯
That is EXACTLY what Maldini said and he got fired for it
Now we are left with this trash
Boban strikes again with actual facts. Ibra should take his diplomatic bs somewhere else.
This team is completely out of balance. I’ve never seen so poorly constructed team. And to think they spent more than 200 millions on it by now… What a f*ck up.
Do you see Ibra saying something else? LOL!!!
“That’s because we fcuked up and didn’t do a good enough job putting this team together…?”
Yup.
Sadly Ibra is a company man – a Redbird Puppet with Gerry’s hand up his arse….
So sad
Ibra never win ucl, so maybe he felt that is ok not a big thing because he is loser in this competition, but we are milan and the fans know how much important it is.
Well the individual players are definitely stronger except midfield. Bring 2 good midfielders, like a deep lying playmaker and a proper destroyer, never play Reijnders in MC again with 4 attacking players in front and this team would probably be stronger.
100% agree.
You’re saying Reijnders isn’t good enough to start?
That’s not what he says. He says Reijnders shouldn’t be a central midfielder if you already have four attacking players in front. And I agree with that. The balance is gone.
He can’t defend. At all. He should be used as #10 instead.
Reijnders needs to play behind the striker. That’s how he amassed 11g’s this season. Felix is useless so far – the team does not know how to link up with him.
Two DM’s in behind Reijnders for clean up in a 4-3-3. It’s straight forward.
Yep. Reindjers is not a DM. Agreed He’s a 10.
But we signed Felix for that same role….
Unbalanced just like Boban said
Reinjders is NOT a DM
you’re Back! cool.
Yes, especially with that ‘powerful’ duo Fofana-Musah in the midfield…
Overall, there’s no big secret behind this mess:
It’s what you get when you have Wall Street greaseballs who only chase paper and have no prior experience of managing a sporting club and neither were they involved in one prior to their executive careers.
It’s what you get when you suddenly kick through the back door the symbol of this club who brought us better days back by winning Scudetto and a got us to bea regular in CL.
It’s what you get when you sell a die hard fan who always left his heart on the field and was a potential bandiera and future captain just to get bunch of no names and non functional players for the sake of re-sale.
It’s what happens when you let your players know, they’re only assets and that no one is safe from being sold. Family values don’t matter here anymore, there’s a price tag on everyone.
It’s what happens when you act tough behind the closed doors but when the team and these young lads actually need you to protect them, you cowardly sneak behind closed doors and leave them alone to face the wrath of the fans only to preach them about success and winning mentality afterwards.
It’s what happens when you use “Ibra tone” and try to force players out of the club, some of which are homegrown, long serving and dedicated players and some who came and were praised 6 months ago but are suddenly a persona non grata.
TLDR – it’s rotting ever since Gerry and the RottenBird took over.
I don’t know about the others but I REALLY appreciate the “Ibra tone” for getting rid of Morata. And I don’t think that was needed to send Calabria away as they were never going to renew him anyway and was bound to leave in 5 months in any case. Okafor? Did anyone even notice him gone? Who else? Cuanca (or what ever his name was)? Who?
Whoever you are, this is hands down the greatest synopsis of this once great club, and this sham of an ownership. Bravo sir
Gerry’s biggest mistake is not hiring an experienced SD, instead trying to duct tape the Maldini fiasco with Ibra…
You brought the truth from the bottom 👍
#bringBobanback
Yikesssss!!!
Kessie left, under Redbird, Giroud and Ibrahimovic were old and needed to be replaced so the argument that that team was ‘dismantled’ is garbage. 3 of the keys players i.e. Mike, Theo and Leao, remain. They’re not close to what they where.
“so the argument that that team was ‘dismantled’ is garbage”. Of course the team was dismantled, what are you smoking ?? 3 is not a big number buddy, 4 doesn’t make it any better. It means 8 out of 11 players are new. Scudetto was only 2 seasons ago and 70 percent of the starting team was replaced. We started with only the 3 players you listed there from the Scudetto team against Feyenoord. And none of the subs were from that winning team either except Tomori and Gabbia. So that makes what 5 out of 20+ players have remained.
It looks math (especially fractions) wasn’t/isn’t uberhulk’s strongest subjects in school.
That’s why he drives uber, no cash handling….
Imagine driving a taxi and having arguments about the change every time 😀
Pioli should have sold Krunic and allow for a quality deep playmaker and strong power house like kessie, not fofana ( I really doubt is quality ) all of Milan summer bus apart from pavlovic are not good enuf.
Its time to move on from Theo, He is too overconfident and no longer hungry,
LMAO 😂 😂 how does Krunic end up here. We still blaming the poor chap? Krunic isn’t the problem of our current or past ails.
Krunic was a reliable backup who was then thrusted into the team as a starting player because management couldn’t construct a proper squad and because they’re too cheap to keep key players.
Krunic is the root of all evil, what are you talking about?!
No wonder they have never made the last 16 after maldini and co left the club…this club is a total mess…# Cardinale out#
Ibrahimovic and redb*tch are killing this club
Well they’re both right but in different ways. Ibra has to say what he did as a director to show positivity and boost morale. The words were good whether or not they were true. He’s learning in the role. But Boban represents the fans take and is closer to the truth. There no way (except for a few posters here, we all know who you are) one can say we’re now better than the Scudetto team. Heck, we had one recognized midfielder sub for the Feyenoord game. That’s the result of poor planning and organization. The Scudetto team were players with purpose and intent, functional for the style and system of play from the coach. The current team are just an assembly of players based on opportunities and risk based an.lysis rather than function
Bla, bla,bla….
Waste of time watching this Milan !!!!! 😡😞
Shame on you, Milan AC !
Ibra, may be you should go home?!
And take with you all these clowns!!
ohhh Ibra Ibra!! I can’t believe how low and stupid you’ve become
I would take giroud(36), Zlatan(39) anytime than Tammy/gimenez.
How can be the team is double strong?
The league is better now too. Juve for 10 years straight was not healthy and the corruption was … Legendary.
Ibra manages like a mercinary just as he was in his playing days. He does not understand anything about loyalty and building a strong foundation. Neither does this management.
Maldini was exactly the opposite to this new management. He wanted to build something strong slowly, bit by bit. Invest bigger money in 1 or 2 players and allow them time to grow just as they did with Leao, Theo, Tonali. By allowing them time and space to grow you build loyalty and commitment to the shirt.
We do not have that now. Now we have mercenaries
