Ibrahimovic sends strong message to Leao: “If he doesn’t help himself, no one can help him”

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted that AC Milan team-mate Rafael Leao needed to find his own path as even he couldn’t stimulate the young Portuguese winger.

With Leao now into his third season at the club, the feeling is that he must begin to show signs of consistency in his game. Despite being just 23 years of age he has shown an explosive amount of potential in both of his first two full seasons, but only in glimpses with the general consensus being that more consistency is needed. He has five goals this season in 15 appearances across Serie A and the Champions League, having shown a leap in mentality.

Leao actually hit good form in his first season when Ibrahimovic arrived at the club, with the duo playing essentially as a forward pairing. Ibrahimovic spoke to Corriere TV about a number of different topics, and he also discussed the exploits of Leao, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“We all have a different character. He is young, he is maturing, he can still grow a lot for the talent he has. I couldn’t stimulate him. If he doesn’t help himself, no one can help him. Before this season. He totally changed, he figured out what to do on his own,” he said.

    1. Well when you have a shit RW like Alexis Saalemakers and a misfiring Giroud in your lineup even what Leao does seems like a lot.

ever since Ibra came in he became our top scorer so i think so it should be evident.

We need a new RW. Saalemakers is not good enough to be a starter at AC Milan ffs.
Though Leao has started the season pretty ok but he did that last season too so idk

  1. Leao only care about his hair style, his dread lock hair.,wow..!!!
    And playing selfish it self.,
need HAUGE back to the squad.,???

  2. What I hate about Leao is that he stops after every single attack. He misses the goal, stops somewhere near the net, and stays there with his hands on his head and only after that starts slowly walking back while the game is still on and other guys trying to continue attacking.
We missed so many opportunities because of him walking back somewhere offside instead of running and joining the party.

  3. It looks like many of the attacks die with his poor finishing, dribbling is saving him but still needs to improve his deliveries.. he’s scored, not too many if an article says “explosive amount of potential” still too many if compared with the other flop winger. sorry just not good enough.

Two whole seasons (plus some) is an incredible amount of playtime, in modern football a 23 years old called a young protege is sad, Leao looks more lethargic when his physic makes him look ruthless, he can’t even play 90 minutes.

Both these wingers by now have more than enough time, they, together with bringing repeatedly old and injured strikers need to be reviewed. If you aim high aim someone like Vlahovic.

Nobody is talking about Rebic too, I don’t know whatever tf is going on with him, the medical team also is a whole different story, are we still talking about a tight schedule? Isn’t Milan suffering with injuries lot worse than many other teams and teams with even harder schedule?

  4. Leao is a not serious minded player, still childish with his display. That’s why he is inconsistency and he can’t go far with such attitude. Can he see his mate mbappe doing well, he needs to put more seriousness in his games because he no more a child. He is a good player but he needs to grow up in his head.

  5. Why you people all ways attack aur players you don’t give them morally you just lose their moral every day those boys are young you have to give them time give them support.

    1. So lets buy an old player so we can attack him by simply state the truth. We never said, we doesn’t support him. From the first when the player sign a professional contract then they knows what it means. You got paid for it. So get serious. He got all the skills to be great player but for now, he wasted that skill and talent.

  6. Leao is like an 8 months old puppy. You can tell he has had training but occasionally still pees on the carpet in the living room.
