AC Milan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic officially reunited after years apart on this day in 2019, but what the future holds beyond the end of the season remains a mystery.
Calciomercato.com reports how back on 27 December 2019, Milan made the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic official after some strong pressing from Maldini and Boban to bring him back. Given his age and time out of European football it was a risky choice, but the numbers show it was worth taking: 10 goals and 6 assists in the second part of the 2019 season, 15 goals in 19 matches last season, plus 7 in 12 outings in the current campaign.
At 40 Ibrahimovic continues to make a difference, but it is clear that he is not invincible and it is no coincidence that Milan are planning an important investment for the summer. There will be a discussion with Zlatan in the spring to understand what comes next.
For Milan the Swede is important but he can no longer be at the centre of the project and it will be up to Zlatan to decide whether to accept this.
