Zlatan Ibrahimovic has insisted that the future of team-mate Rafael Leao is entirely in his own hands, but he has the potential to become a great player.
Leao has had mixed fortunes overall since his arrival in the 2019 summer window after Milan paid out a substantial transfer fee to sign him from Lille.
After finding game time tough to come by under Marco Giampaolo and under Stefano Pioli after his arrival, there were even some suggestions that he could be allowed to leave in the summer, possibly on loan to get more game time.
There have also been doubts about his best position, but after a match-winning brace against Spezia as a striker and an assist for Ibrahimovic as a left winger in the win over Inter, he has proven to be capable in any position.
Ibrahimovic spoke to the media after Milan’s 2-1 win over Inter on Saturday in the Derby della Madonnina and make some interesting comments about Leao, which were transcribed by Calciomercato.com.
“There is a great talent here. He has a great future but it all depends on him,” he said.
“I told him not to waste time, Milan can’t waste the opportunity. He is willing to grow. Today he worked great, he has some moments in which he falls but we are here to make him grow and to make him do great things.”
