Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suggested that Massimiliano Allegri wants more players with character in the squad, perhaps hinting at what’s to come in the summer.
So far, you have to say that it’s been a very good season for Milan under the circumstances. Having lost just twice, they have 60 points in the standings and also have the best defence in Europe’s top five leagues as things stand, which is very impressive indeed.
That said, everyone agrees – from fans to management and the coaches – that Milan need something extra to take the final leap in their development. After all, if it hasn’t been for the derby win, the Inter would have been able to run away with the Scudetto.
Ibrahimovic leaves a clue
In his long interview with CBS Sports, Ibrahimovic was asked about what it’s like to work with Allegri and suggested that the manager wants more players with character in the team. Just like he did back when Ibrahimovic was his player between 2010 and 2012.
What is Max Allegri like?
“He’s a character. I also had him as a coach and even back then, he handled the players very well. He’s very good at creating relationships with the players and managing the group.
“It wasn’t easy because we had Seedorf, we had me, Cassano, all of these big characters that were not afraid to say things. Then Allegri has to think about the collective, he cannot think about just one, so already back then he needed to work on the big character of the team.
“He handled it well, we won the league the first year, and he’s bringing the same things to the team today. Maybe now he’s missing some big characters that he would like to have a few more of.”

Allegri wants leaders. Not Odogu, Athekame and Fulkrug …
Character-wise Füllkrug is a leader though if you knew anything about him.
I agree, and I think we have yet to see him back to what he is capable of
