Ibrahimovic supports Milan’s pursuit of Chelsea striker: “If he comes he is welcome”

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has given his vocal support for the potential signing of Olivier Giroud on a free transfer, insisting the team needs more winners.

It seems as though Milan are closing quickly on the signing of the Frenchman. Calciomercato.com reported this morning that Giroud’s arrival is becoming increasingly probable and this could be the decisive week in negotiations for the French striker, whose contract is set to expire.

Chelsea have decided not to stick with the World Champion and Milan have found an agreement principle over a two-year deal at about €4m net per season and Giroud himself is house shopping in Italy.

Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Swede spoke about a number of different topics and was asked about the possible arrival of Giroud, with his comments transcribed by MilanLive and translated below.

“The more high level players we manage to sign, the better. Giroud has great experience and we don’t have many players who have won trophies. If he comes he is welcome. Also because this is a very helpful group, who wants to learn and improve, a well-guided work group,” he said.
