CM: Ibra wants to recover from Sweden disappointment – the two options for his Milan future

By Oliver Fisher -

There will be no final World Cup fairytale for Zlatan Ibrahimovic as Poland beat Sweden 2-0 to end their hopes of qualifying for Qatar.

Calciomercato.com write how 10 minutes off the bench were enough for Ibrahimovic to help his side in their quest to overturn a two-goal deficit against Poland, and now questions will begin about his ambitions for the future.

Ibrahimovic has always been clear about his two great targets, which are winning the Scudetto with Milan and playing in a last World Cup with Sweden. Now the latter is no longer possible, he wants to have a decisive season finale with the Rossoneri and then sit down for a meeting with Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini to discuss his future.

The 40-year-old would like to go on for at least another season and the Rossoneri are grateful to the Swede so they will offer him a renewal, but the figures will be decidedly lower than the previous agreements.

The bid is likely to be €2-3m net fixed base plus various bonuses linked to the number of goals he scores and appearances he makes. Whether Ibra accepts it is another thing because he has never been a back-up in his career, rather always the protagonist.

Maldini has also opened up to a possible executive role if Ibrahimovic decides to stop playing football, something that would still allow him to continue to be at the club, so there is plenty on the table to consider.
