Official: Zlatan Ibrahimovic called up for Sweden’s World Cup play-offs

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is on the list of players called up by Sweden to play in their World Cup play-offs at the end of the month, it has been confirmed.

On Wednesday afternoon Sweden announced the list of players called up to play the in the play-offs and it is perhaps no surprise to see Ibrahimovic among the names given that he has got his way back into the fold in recent months.

Janne Andersson, the Sweden coach, has clearly decided to rely on the experience of the 40-year-old in the event that Sweden beat the Czech Republic and get to what would be a play-off final against Poland.

Due to the yellow card he received in the last match against Spain, Ibrahimovic will not be able to play the semi-final that will see Sweden face off against the Czech Republic. However, he will be available for a potential final.

On his call-up, Andersson said (via MilanNews): “He struggled with some injuries but he’s coming back. Firstly, I don’t consider him a starting player for 90 minutes, but in our conversations it was very clear that Zlatan wants to be part of this team. With his best qualities on the pitch and routine and off-pitch leadership qualities he will help the team.”
