Il Foglio: Council curbs Milan’s optimism regarding new stadium as obstacles still exist

By Oliver Fisher -

Although AC Milan and Inter are optimistic that their new stadium project could break ground next year, there are reportedly various obstacles.

Scaroni recently gave an update on the new stadium situation, regarding which there has been reports of growing optimism in the media from the two clubs, suggesting that construction work could start next year.

Italian firm Manica and American giants Populous are the two competing firms trying to land the project, with both Milanese teams absolutely intent on constructing a new state of the art stadium.

According to Il Foglio (via MilanNews) however, the Council have slowed down the optimism of Scaroni, because there are various ‘obstacles’ that must be overcome before the shovels can enter the ground.

One of these is the political elections in Milan that are set to take place which could result in the two clubs having to go through parts of the approval process again, while the other is the neighbourhood committees, who will try in every way to oppose the project.
