Il Giornale: Chelsea readying €100m bid and ‘monstrous’ salary offer for Leao

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have not yet managed to agree the renewal of Rafael Leao’s contract and Chelsea may well try their luck, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of the newspaper Il Giornale (via MilanNews) reports this morning that the issue of Leao’s renewal continues to be a big talking point in the offices of Casa Milan where directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara aim to find a resolution.

For now the parties have not yet found an agreement over the terms of an extension on the winger’s current deal, which will expire in June 2024, and it will not be a straightforward negotiation.

The Portuguese has no shortage of admirers, in particular Chelsea who are ready to offer Leao a ‘monstrous salary’ and will tempt the Rossoneri management with a bid in the region of €100m, hoping to persuade them to part with last season’s Serie A MVP.

  1. Good – get the maximum value for him, and re-invest. The bottom line is that Milan will always be a selling club until they have the income (and owners) to compete with Chelsea, Man City, Bayern, PSG, Real etc.

      1. Exactly. At least on another positive note, they do seem to have realized that the city of Milan will not be giving the permission to demolish San Siro and they can start building the new stadium (which is essential) to San Sesto Giovanni or somewhere else. But while waiting, 100M€ from Chelsea would fix 1-3 issues in the squad.

    1. I love how people keep throwing around selling club pejoratively. 99.9% of clubs are selling clubs according to your list of like 5 clubs that aren’t. Even Bayern sells when the price is right (see Lewandowski), or lets players go free when the finances stop making sense. BTW, when was the last time Bayern spent 100m on a player? Never. They rarely spend over 50m on a single player, with De Ligt (65m) and Hernandez (80m) being two notable exceptions. If anything Bayern is exactly what we should be striving to be. Know when to hold, know when to fold. Madrid is 100s of millions in debt, always leveraging future income. Simply put the only way the club isn’t a “selling club” is if 1. Serie A somehow finds a way to strike a 3bn euro deal for its TV rights and 2. Milan is bought and owned by a petro-state. Neither of these scenarios seem likely. If we get a stadium built things will improve but we will always be a “selling club” so long as the EPL continues to receive outrageous TV deals and a handful of clubs owned by petro-states owners continue to be allowed to operate way outside FFP by corrupt UEFA and FIFA. So why not just support your club, as opposed to constantly dragging it for trying to work with what it has (and actually being quite successful at it thus far)?

  2. So, we are much stronger club then Selling Club, if we can operate with players who left for free. Economically and etc. What everybody needs to realise, best team does not guarantee first place and winning the title.

Milan management must take another step: to calculate how much each player deserves salary, and give them that. Players who are not happy, and think deserves more must find agreement with club and be sold.

Leao can get everything in contract with New club for 5 years, but later must convince club with play. Here he has a lot of space.

Meantime some younger cant play because of Leao.
Milan must believe that we are best team, and do and behave accordingly.

    1. “Milan management must take another step: to calculate how much each player deserves salary, and give them that. Players who are not happy, and think deserves more must find agreement with club and be sold.”

And you think they haven’t done that already? Lots of contracts extensions made already. And I assume there will be two players sold in the summer. Guess what their names are.

  3. “Go on take the money and run…” if true sell him instead of letting him go for free. Hate to our best player go but hey, nature of the beast. Build that new stadium already outside of milan. Have the city council geow weeds in san siro. Again, all this drama makes u appreciate theo’s dedication to the club.

    1. 100m + ziyech is a better deal, not ziyech on loan! Leao’s buy-out clause is 150m, so we are giving them 30m discount if they pay CASH IN FULL NOW .
