Immobile’s agent reveals Milan had €55m bid rejected by Lazio president Lotito

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of Lazio striker Ciro Immobile has revealed that AC Milan once made a large bid for his client that did not end up being successful.

Immobile rose to prominence at Torino before getting a move to Borussia Dortmund and then Sevilla, returning to Italy with Lazio in 2016 where he scored 29 goals in 33 games in his second season to win the Capocannoniere.

The 2019–20 season was the most prolific of Immobile’s career as he equalled the record for most Serie A goals in a season with 36 and won a third Capocannoniere title and first European Golden Shoe, given to the top scorer in Europe.

He is currently Lazio’s all-time highest goalscorer, but it could have been different. Immobile’s agent Alessandro Moggi spoke to Calciomercato.com and revealed an interesting story related to his client and an offer from Milan, with his comments relayed by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it.

“The year of Yonghong Li [2017], Milan offered 55 million euros, but Lotito didn’t let him go. A short time later there was a proposal of 50 million from Dalian, in China, who offered the player 12.5 million for five years. But even in that case Lazio rejected the offer,” he said.

“And Ciro in both cases stayed willingly at Lazio, he never forced to leave because he is attached to the club and feels an integral part of the project. It’s a demonstration that these players have values, and they don’t always think about money as is often said.”

      1. And we wouldn’t have needed to buy Piatek later either. Or loan Higuain. Plus we’ve actually won more matches and probably made it to the UCL more often too.
