AC Milan are not rushing into the signing of a new central defender and are evaluating various options, Matteo Moretto reports.

Having acquired new striker Gonçalo Ramos from PSG for a club-record fee, the Milan management are now looking for reinforcements for the defence. Several names have been linked already, with Lisandro Martinez and John Stones the latest to join the list.

Among the more recent suggestions is Gonçalo Inacio, someone that Ruben Amorim knows well from their time together at Sporting CP. Links with Antonio Silva of Benfica also strongly emerged, though it seems they are digging in and will not let him go.

According to Matteo Moretto in his latest YouTube video (via MilanNews), one of the names that has been mentioned is confirmed as a target, but the other can be ruled out for the time being.

“As for AC Milan, I can confirm the name of Gonçalo Inacio: 24 years old, Sporting’s centre-back. He’s an important name both in terms of future prospects and in terms of financial figures. He costs a lot and Sporting expects to raise significant cash,” he said.

“There’s also talk of Johns Stones, a completely different profile: 32 years old, his contract with Manchester City is expiring, and he’ll leave for free. As of today, Stones’ name doesn’t appear to be on this shortlist of central defenders being pursued by Milan.

“I don’t think AC Milan intends to close the deal anytime soon, although contacts and discussions will certainly begin in the coming days.

“Amorim’s idea is to evaluate all the members of the squad, he wants to understand who can stay and who can’t: once he’s 100% certain who will leave, the process will move on to the exits and then the arrivals.”

  1. Tiago Santos (guess who his agent is), Stones,
    Inacio, Ruggeri, Hjulmand, Liberali, Ramos
    & a backup 9 and 1 more AMC/W for depth…

Just stick on a video of Tomori bloopers last season and the answer should be clear in about 5 seconds…
