Inter defender Bastoni admits Milan’s Scudetto celebrations were ‘hard images to digest’

By Oliver Fisher -

Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has admitted that he found it very hard to see AC Milan celebrating the Scudetto at the end of last season.

The battle for supremacy in Italy ended up going right down to the wire as Milan went into the last game of the season against Sassuolo knowing just a draw would be enough for them to end their 11-year title drought, and a rousing 3-0 win was enough.

However, there were plenty of turning points in the lead-up to that, such as the Rossoneri’s comeback derby win in February, the win away at Napoli, the last-minute victory against Lazio in Rome and Inter’s slip-up in their game in hand against Bologna. Milan ended the season with six wins in a row to take advantage, conceding just twice in their last 11 games.

The Nerazzurri defender Alessandro Bastoni gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport microphones and he was asked to reflect on the end to the 2021-22 campaign, that saw the Rossoneri left the league title.

“I admit, the images of the Milan celebrations were hard images to digest, but it’s normal. Not winning is bad already, if the neighbours from home win even worse. We will do everything to be the ones to celebrate in the city next time,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).
