Ex-Inter defender says Milan react to conceding much better than Inter

By Euan Burns -

Former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi has explained how AC Milan react much better to conceding goals than Inter do following the Milan derby.

Speaking whilst on the Sky Sport Italia Calcio program (via Milan News), Bergomi continued to analyse the fallout from Milan’s 3-2 win over the Nerazzurri on Saturday evening at San Siro.

He highlighted the lack of mental toughness that Inter, as was exhibited by how their performance dipped after Rafael Leao had got the equaliser in the first half. Milan were quickly able to score two more goals in the second half.

“I underline one thing, Inter lack mental toughness. Between the end of the first half and the beginning of the second the Nerazzurri were out of the game,” Bergomi said.

He then added that Milan are able to stay in games once they have conceded but that is not something that Inter seem to be able to do.

“Then they got back into it with the changes, as chances go they deserved a draw, but it’s everything else that is worrying: you can concede a draw but you have to stay in the game. Milan do this, Inter on the other hand always have this problem,” he said.

The goals in the second half came from Olivier Giroud to make it 2-1 and then a superb goal from Leao made it 3-1 to Milan. Edin Dzeko got one back for Inter.

  1. Inter has a big problem. They lack concentration. Coach unable to instill the fighting mentality. Keeper is afraid to use the small box. Players allow opponent to get too close before they pass the ball. Brozovic and barella try difficult passing and then they open their arms, coach not able to effect changes on time.
