Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer has claimed that he has been studying Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic closely ahead of tomorrow’s derby against Inter.
It promises to be a showpiece spectacle at San Siro on Saturday evening as Inter ‘host’ Milan in the first Derby della Madonnina of 2023-24, with both sides going into the game having won three games out of three.
The Nerazzurri have certainly enjoyed more recent success in the fixture having emerged victorious in each of the four derbies played in 2023 so far, but both clubs underwent big changes in the summer meaning the slate is clean.
One of the big changes was in goal for Inter, with Yann Sommer arriving to fill the void left by Andre Onana’s sale to Manchester United, and he spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of the game.
“Inter means tradition and excellence. When I chose the Nerazzurri, I looked at the big picture. The coach, the goalkeeper’s trainer, the style of play, the stadium, the fans and the life in the city for my family. I understood this was the right place for me,” he said (via FootballItalia).
“I never felt I would not come here. I was calm. I don’t know what happened between the two clubs but I was confident of reaching the place I wanted.
“Inter have always had strong keepers. Julio Cesar, Toldo, but also Onana and Handanovic last year. I will do anything to be up to the task.”
On preparing for Saturday’s game – his first Milan derby – Sommer admitted that there is a lot of excitement.
“There’s a great atmosphere at the stadium. It’s noisy, thrilling and fun. Everyone who had already played here told me it was amazing.
“I can’t wait, I know everyone’s waiting for this game. Even my compatriot Ricardo Rodriguez, who played for Milan, always told me about this match.
“It comes very early in the season and anything can happen. There are other rivals for the title and it’s hard to make predictions.
“All their strikers, from Leao to Pulisic, are dangerous and strong. I am studying them in detail, trying to predict all possible situations on the pitch, including penalties.”
