Silenzio stampa and Chivu’s fury: Inter surrounded by a storm on day Milan hope to cut gap

Inter have found themselves at the centre of a storm after what took place during their draw with Atalanta at San Siro on Saturday.

Cristian Chivu’s side were hoping to bounce back from their derby defeat to Milan with a win, and they took the lead through Pio Esposito. However, Krstovic’s equaliser in the eventual 1-1 draw has sparked a lot of controversy and anger, while opening the door slightly for Milan.

Silenzio stampa

As MilanPress report, Inter decided not to send either the coach or any players for post-match interviews. The silence of the club and of Chivu – who was sent off late in the match for protesting – stems from the strong disappointment over two refereeing incidents late in the match.

The first concerns Sulemana’s alleged foul on Dumfries in the move that led to Krstovic’s equaliser in the 82nd minute. A few minutes later, the second incident was a penalty claimed by Inter for contact between Scalvini and Frattesi in the Atalanta penalty area, which was denied after a VAR review.

The protests were heated: Chivu was sent off for a second yellow card, while Dumfries and other players vigorously contested the referee’s decision. The San Siro stadium also demonstrated its discontent with chants against referee Manganiello.

A discussion took place in the dressing room between Inter management and the refereeing team. The Nerazzurri believe that similar incidents in the past have been judged differently by VAR.

To avoid further controversy or possible sanctions, the league leaders have opted for a press blackout, but, as La Gazzetta dello Sport report, they will make their voices heard through president Marotta who is expected to ring Lega Serie A during the week.

  1. This is hilarious… They’re crying now when Chivu should’ve been banned from the touchline for stopping Rabiot’s throw in, they get slapped on the wrist for taking out the Sampdoria keeper with a flare, Kalulu gets sent off while cheating Bastoni stays on the field — and that’s just the favors they’ve had off the top of my head.. what a club…

  2. This is it. No other result than a win. If it’s a draw or lost, we can say goodbye to a slightest chance of winning Scudetto.
