Goals and clean sheets: International round-up for the AC Milan Women – September 2021

By Steph Insixiengmay -

Though Serie A Femminile has been on hiatus, the Rossonere have been busy. Several members of the Milan Women have been busy either participating in friendlies or qualification matches.

Sara Thrige scored in Denmark’s resounding win over Malta. She scored the seventh goal of the game and the first-ever for her country. Denmark won the match by a score of 7-0.

Valentina Giacinti scored the third goal in Italy’s 3-0 win over Moldova.

And she managed to score, despite the Moldovans rather odd habit of pinching her stomach. Fellow Milan players Valentina Bergamaschi and Laura Giuliani played in the qualifier as well. They also played a vital part in Italy’s 3-0 win. Thankfully, the Moldovans didn’t subject them to the same rough treatment.

Refiloe Jane and South Africa also won their first match of the Aisha Buhari Cup. Jane played the full 90+ minutes as Banyana Banyana trounced Ghana by a score of 3-0.

Christy Grimshaw also helped spur Scotland to a 2-0 win over Hungary. The only Milan player who lost a match with their country was Mária Korenčiová with Slovakia. They lost 1-0 to Sweden. Guðný Árnadóttir and Iceland will play first match against the reigning European champions, the Netherlands, on September 21st.

Once the first round of international matches is over, Milan will reconvene and take on Sassuolo this Saturday, September 25th. Kickoff time will be 14:30 CET.
