Italiano believes Fiorentina ‘deserved’ at least one goal against Milan

Vincenzo Italiano believes that his Fiorentina side deserved at least one goal against AC Milan given the chances they created during the game.

Milan snapped a four-game winless run in the league on Saturday night with Theo Hernandez’s penalty just before the stroke of half-time and Mike Maignan’s late heroics enough to overcome several absences.

It is a result that the Rossoneri badly needed not just for confidence in view of Tuesday’s crucial game against Dortmund but also because Juventus host Inter tonight, meaning the gap to at least one of the top two will be cut.

Italiano spoke to reporters at his post-match press conference after the game last night, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

A game decided by incidents, should there have been a penalty for Fiorentina?

“If it hits the body first maybe it’s not a penalty, if it goes straight to the arm it’s a clear penalty. Let’s forget about the episode, it’s not the first time a match like this has happened to us.

“After everything we did in the second half we couldn’t help but score It’s not the first time. We need to find the solution, which can be ferocity, talent, but it’s no good not finding at least the equaliser.”

What is missing?

“We must all ask ourselves questions, especially those who find themselves an inch from the goal and are unable to score. It’s not bad luck in football, but quality, ferocity in finishing.”

Beltran was subdued…

“When you coach a group and you have 5 wingers and 2 first strikers at your disposal you just have to put them in a position to score. We demonstrate this every match, we create many chances…

“Then you have to find the spark, the final play. We will beat, we will work. Then if we always play like this, finding the spark, we will score a few more points.”

What team are Fiorentina?

“I think we have improved, we are strong, not very strong. The very strong don’t lose today, they don’t lose in Rome and against Juve. We’re missing something to become a super team.”

Italiano also spoke to DAZN after the game and insisted that his Viola side probably deserved a goal based on what they created and the balance of play.

“Analysing the match, in the last ten minutes of the first half we conceded a little too much and in that drop we had we conceded the penalty. Great reaction in the second half. We can’t not score goals after producing so much, that’s where we need to improve.

“We often happen to work inside the opponent’s half of the field, doing it here at San Siro is a great merit but more ferocity is needed up front. We had to score at least one goal, it would have been deserved.”
