The Coppa Italia of last season is one of the most painful memories of last year. AC Milan had a chance to somewhat salvage the season, yet they never took it.
Ahead of the final, it seemed Milan were growing again. After the lull that followed the Supercoppa Italiana, it seemed they were returning to a position where Europe was a possibility. The league picture was becoming slightly better, and beating Inter for a place in the final only aided things.
However, it would come crumbling down at the Stadio Olimpico, where Bologna deservedly took the final and earned a place in the Europa League, banishing the Rossoneri to a Europe-less season this year.
Of course, that has had its own effects, and reminders are constant.
Italiano reminisces
Today, with another huge trip to the Olimpico ahead of him, Vincenzo Italiano looked back on the success in the final, describing the win against the Rossoneri as an eternal memory, as MilanNews relays.
“Here at the Olimpico, we won the Italian Cup, which allowed us to be here in the Europa League. That win against Milan is indelible, something destined to remain forever, and now we are here after a beautiful journey in the groups and playoffs.
“We play against a strong team in a very hot environment. But no, it’s not a final, nor a watershed, for the final, there would still be a long way to go. But it’s a very important game.
“Roma has a higher value than ours, as shown by the ranking and the level of the individuals, not counting the environment, since they will play at home, we will have to give three times what we can give to pass”
