MN: Milan given big double boost – Jashari and Estupinan’s returns imminent

Some very good news has arrived for AC Milan on the injury front as two players will return to full training on Thursday.

Milan have been fighting against the tide in the past few games, having only had a limited squad (19 outfield players) to begin the season, and with numerous injury issues having severely depleted the depth available.

A double boost

MilanNews report that Milan returned to training this morning following last night’s draw against Atalanta, and there are positive updates about what should happen during Thursday’s session.

Ardon Jashari – who has been out since the end of August due to a compound fracture of his right fibula – underwent individual training with the Milan coaching staff, today but both he and Pervis Estupinan will be back in the group as usual starting tomorrow.

Jashari Roma

The Ecuadorian wing-back has finally recovered from the sprained ankle he suffered while playing for his national team. Both could therefore be eligible for Sunday’s game against Roma, though Estupinan is more likely given how long Jashari has been out.

Almost all the Rossoneri players worked out in the gym today, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek the only one to actually work on the field. Loftus-Cheek is working on his recovery after being sidelined for a few days due to a muscle strain sustained during the final training session before the Fiorentina match.

  1. thts great to hear i hope jashari comes in last 5 mins to give modric the break he deserves. i want allegri to stop relying on that stupid 2 attacker formation without pulisic = it isnt feasible with out options vs big teams

    1. He is relying on the 3 man defense, as that is the only way this Milan can go through the season without conceding 40+ goals.

      1. Still 3-5-2 is not optimal solution in my opinion, not with the players he has available at the moment.

I still can’t figure out what the instructions for Gimenez are – most of the times he receives the ball in our field and there’s at least 1 or 2 midfielders in front of him. He can’t dribble past more than 1 player and is not fast enough to pass quickly and position himself in a striker position. While in the first matches he failed on numerous occasions to score, in the last 2-3 weeks I can’t remember him getting a good service from the midfield. Fofana continues his shooting challenge, obviously unaware the place for this is on the training grounds… It seems the whole team relies on Puli, Modric, Rabiot and Saelemakers..

        1. It is. Because the defenders are mid and you can’t play 2 CDs and then change the formation. Last season Milan conceded almost 50 goals in 38 games. That is embarrassing. Now Allegri has exactly the same defenders, he isn’t stupid to trust them and play 4 man defense.

          1. The number of goals conceded also has something to do with the midfield we had last season. We had Fofana and Reijnders in the double pivot, which is not where either of them play best, with RLC higher up. Off the bench we had dross like Musah, Bondo and…nothing else. Absolutely awful midfield.

I think with players like Rabiot, Ricci and Jashari, we could more effectively play with a double pivot, with Modric pushed up to playmaker, or with Modric as the regista and RLC/Jashari and Rabiot either side of him in a 4-3-3, with Ricci being Modric’s backup, and with the one of RLC/Jashari on the bench plus Fofana as the backup mezzale.

I agree that our CBs aren’t world class, but Gabbia is decent and it could work if Allegri figures out which one of the other three to pair with him.

          2. And to add, I think if Allegri does ever play with four at the back, it will be 4-3-3, because he loves having men behind the ball and that formation will mean having an extra man deep vs 4-2-3-1, and it is the formation he was using before he converted to 3-5-2 at Juventus. It also leaves Leao, who is useless in defense, with less defensive obligations than 4-2-3-1 would (assuming he’s playing as the left winger).

          3. Only Tomori could maybe work. Pavlovic will never be a 5 man defense player. Evident. De Winter has no experience at Milan. Anyway, it won’t happen until new defenders are signed.

        2. I agree with you that the formation could be better tailored for our attackers but we don’t have defenders to think about this.

  2. Bartesaghi should not come off the field at this point. He’s hasn’t just been adequate, he’s been solid. No glaring errors since he took over for Estupinan.

    1. He has been solid. I’d say he’s probably more reliable as a defender than PE.

But Pervis is a bit better in attack, certainly plays better balls into dangerous areas.

        1. Those crosses were terrible did you watch the game? Barts best quality is he reads the game well. He’s decent defensively and has his moments in attack but I think Vabble was highlighting that estu best trait is crossing and he is probably the best crosser on the team

          1. And Estupinan the best in crosser in the team? You are literally a mo*on. He has 1 ACCURATE CROSS IN ALL THE Serie A GAMES COMBINED. Stats are easy to check. Barthesagi is dr. of crosses for Estupinan, if Barte was a bit faster and nimbler he would be a world class left back or wing back.

    2. Bartesaghi is not good enough to start 3 games in 10 days. Against Atalanta you could already see his performance levels drop off.

Pervis should start against Roma if he can.

  3. It will be interesting to see if the attack improves with estu back. It will be good to see how he complements leao, a lot of speed on one flank with technical ability on the other that might actually create channels for leao to exploit. Throw in a striker that can get on the ball and teams might actually have to respect the attack

  4. And to think that it was the useless Gimenez that got him injured. I don’t know what Alegri sees in Gimenez. A striker that can not win duel balls, hold the ball…the most useless striker in seria A

  5. This formation will never and ever help us and Allegri herself knows that, but he’s being soo selfish to learn or change tactics, 4231,433,343 or 3421 is far better then those call 3511 and 361or 352. That formation is for small teams who always want to defend without thinking off winning league, you can win some matches but it’s not good enough for Big Team like AC Milan to be defending against every team that you meet. Sometimes as a professional coach you don’t need to have only 1 formation why? Sometimes I watch our matches like we’re newly promoted to the league why?😡😡😡
