A team has been mocked up for what Oliver Glasner’s XI could look like at AC Milan with no inward transfers.
As it stands, Oliver Glasner is the first-choice coach for Milan and it may require the fewest changes in the summer. Indeed, he has used a 3-4-2-1 system heavily at Crystal Palace, but he also has a history with the 4-3-3.

In other words, the squad as it is is nearly perfect. Though transfers would be required to take it up a level. Especially with some big names expected to leave, namely, Rafael Leao and Luka Modric.
Glasner’s potential Milan team
As seen below, Gazzetta dello Sport has created a draft for what the team could look like and the defence would be relatively unchanged. Indeed, Mike Maignan, Strahinja Pavlovic and Matteo Gabbia would all remain.
However, Fikayo Tomori could be replaced on a permanent basis by Koni De Winter. At wing-back, the theme of no changes continues, with Alexis Saelemaekers and Davide Bartesaghi selected.
In midfield, Adrien Rabiot – presuming he stays – would start alongside Ardon Jashari. If the Frenchman departs, Youssouf Fofana could well take his spot.
Up front, it would be pretty interesting. Christian Pulisic and Christopher Nkunku would take positions on either side of the striker, whilst Santiago Gimenez would be given the reins of the attacking lineup.
Of course, additions would be expected, but as it stands, it is not a bad team at all.

Something like this is what I’ve been asking for all year. Xmas tree formation or this 3421. I do think Nkunku could work in the right system and he and puli have very similar footballing ideas. I think they could work well together but Milan NEED a real 9 that can link with those 2 and be a goal threat. Pepi on the USMNT (Also PSV) has showed that ability and would only cost around 30/40 mil but there are many like him so lots of options at that level.
From what I saw, he isn’t any better than Gimenez.
Good for you. I did say there were plenty like him it’s just an example. We aren’t going to be purchasing any top tier strikers with this current owner so, you have any ideas?
Yes, don’t spend 40M on a player that isn’t better than the ones you currently have in the team. That is my idea, I thought its clear up there.
Are you familiar with Redbird management?
Yes.
Explain how he’s not better than Gimenez. And you can call me an idiot or whatever for asking if you’d like.
Can you maybe tell me how is he better? I’ve watched 2 games of that guy so I can’t really say that I know know. But looking at his numbers and what I saw in those few games, Gimenez even did better than him in Netherlands, and he was in a weaker team than PSV is now. So, if we just do stats compare Gimenez scored more. Does it mean he is 100% better, no?
1 exception, if they’re buying young talent that isn’t better already but has big potential.
well pepi is 23 so, pretty young. I don’t appreciate the contrarian for contrarian’s sake, it’s kind of a waste of time. Offer something up or move onto another topic. I also think Pepi is better than Gimenez. Time after time that dude scores in big moments and he’s good at making goals out of nothing. Him and Pulisic already have a great relationship on the pitch etc etc…so again, got any other ideas?
No, I don’t do that. Ask King22 or Revolt, they’ll have more ideas than you can handle.
I just don’t value Ricardo Pepi from what I saw. He isn’t a bad player but for that money no.
They reignite Mateta deal. Well, since he current coach could be coming to Milan, he could request for him.
Pepi scored a goal every 54 minutes last season while Santi scored a goal every 113 minutes at Feyenoord. That’s a pretty big difference. Pepi might end up being another Santi but that won’t be proven unless he gets a chance at a bigger club/better league.
Ryan that is completely not true. Pepi did not score a goal every 54 minutes, but every 90 minutes. Still good but you overdid it. Gimenez had a goal every 100 minutes in his last season. But if we include assists he was better
I gave you numbers a few posts below. He scored much more often than Gimenez did by a large margin. I wouldn’t spend 40m on him but he’s a better option than Gimenez.
Or above
Your numbers are wrong. Pepi 16 goals and 1 assist in 1415 minutes, you can see from looking at it that it isn’t every 54 minutes. It is a goal contributiuon every 83 minutes
Same with Gimenez
23 goals and 6 assists in 2383minutes. It is goal contribution every 82 minutes.
Which numbers?
You’re correct. I blame AI. I’d still give him a chance for 20 mil.
I’m not sure Pepi is much of an upgrade. But I’m really not sure not having seen much of Gimenez or even Pepi in the Netherlands. Pepi is good in the air and an efficient finisher. Watching him in the WC will give us a better idea of his qualities. I suspect people are commenting with having see him much.
He could be an upgrade. He’s much more prolific in front of goal but he will need a chance to prove he can do it in a big league on a big team.
He isn’t even starting for PSV, he is a backup striker from what I see.
I would chose Nicolo Tresoldi if we are to pick young talented hungry and promising striker with eyes for goals and room for improvement
This would only work with a target striker like Mateta. Definitely not Gimenez who Milan needs to sell this summer.
We would also need an upgrade on the RCB, Gabbia and Barteshagi. Grimaldi from Leverkusen for the LWB and Gila for the RCB role.
Very good team for middle table battle.
24 – 17 position.
I agree
OUT: Leao, RLC, Estupinan, Odogu(loan)
IN: Brahim Diaz, Mateta, Gila/Lucumi, Grimaldo, Kulusevski
(Comotto, Camarda and Zeroli might be good for depth and Glasner has history of making young players shine; we also have plenty games with Europa League)
Too much play video games. Relax bro.. no one save for now, at least for while… Who knows maybe maignan wants to go next season??
they can want whatever they want, contracts speak differently… same with Mike last season
if Ragnick and Glasner come in and the only inputs from Ibra and Gerry are, how much money do you guys need for the upcoming mercato?! anything else is just waste of another season
Bartesaghi LOL Ardon LOL Nkunku LOL Santi LOL
Saelemaekers LOLOLOL
More or less…
If Milan keeps FOFANA, the most lazy player in Serie A who pretends he runs, and can’t pass or score, we will finish in Uefa cup place. Can’t they see how many kms he run per match?
Revolt LOL
Milanezi LOL It’s Milanisti, you mo*on.
It’s April 1 already?
June but it is the same since cardinale took over Ac Milan.
Every month is going to be 1ST of April.
Of course there will be transfers, but I do think the current roaster is a good fit to Glasner’s football.
For as much as I prefer a back 4 in theory, our defenders and wingbacks are more suited to a back 3. And I would really like to see Pulisic and Nkuku behind a n9.
Nkunku and Pulisic will do great there. With Glasner, we can also hope that he’ll bring along Mateta. The striker post should be dealt with as the main priority.
Salads and Bartesaghi have their work cut out for them. In this formation, more defensive and ball recovery duties will be required from them instead of just charging forward in a 3-5-2. Basically, they will have to defend, recovery, and deliver the ball to the wingers.
This is madness I can’t believe it we are still playing 3 man defence is rubbish we didn’t interview Arne slot even other coaches we are now settling for Glasner now I see very well that Acmilan is finished we didn’t get Mattias jassle even
We went 23 games undefeated playing 3 at the back, they should be fine, the problem we had was in attack, and organisation on the ball and pressing. That was the main issue
The back 3 isn’t the problem at Milan. It’s all about mentality. Cagliari games expose that, the team isn’t driven enough. You can play any formation you want if the players aren’t motivated. You won’t get anywhere. Pioli said in his interview after leaving that he knew his time came when he failed to rally the troop something we have seen time and time again.
Get off Modric’s junk already. He’s a Real Madrid legend, not a Milan legend. KPB and Nocerino did more for the club. 4 good months and you act like he’s Rijkaard.

Which part is not clear to you again?
Total club income, revenue, whatever you want to call it, more than doubled in this period. Of course the club can post profits. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PLAYER SALES. They did the about the same in last 2 seasons after Maldini and Massara, still accounts were in profit.
Sorry Max, some here play too much monopoly, they do not understand economics. These guys will. Max credit cards and complain how the world owes them something
This team would have won the league with propper wing backs! we have no wing backs guys! saelemaekers is a freestyler not a footballer and bartesaghi is a sub for pavlovic, not a solution for the left flank! bring palestra on the right and another wing back on the left, give estupinian and athekame more credit and we will be fine
To the glue eater complaining about the back 3, ask yourself this question. Who do we have that can play as a normal defensive fullback in a back 4?????????
Ya that’s what i thought. Literally the closest thing w have is Bart. Everyone else is a “defense 2nd” type of player. We have wingbacks rn, not fullbacks. So unless we go out and sign 2-3 fullbacks for a 4 at the back, 3 is what we have the personnel for. Try and stick to reality before you moan in the comments like a toddler
Athtekame showed signs of being decent in my opinion. I think he’s actually better as a full back than a wing back.
Would there be bumps along the way as a full time starter? Of course. But he’s got some potential.
There will be incomings. There is a 30M “budget” and more if they sell Leao and some of the dead wood. Spend that on a striker than can actually score, even if it’s “just” 10-15 league goals, as that would be a 1000% increase over Gimenez. Then, depending on whether the new coach will go 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 or 3-4-2-1, we’ll need either more wingers or more attacking midfielders, I’d say two. Then an alternate for Bartesaghi at LB, and if possible a good no. 6 if Modric retires or leaves.
If Leao is sold for at least 50M, and players like Musah, Chukwueze and Bennacer are sold for a combined 40M, and then you add this rumored 30M “budget”, it gives us 120M to play with: 40M for a striker, 30M each for two wingers or two AMs (see above), and 20M for an LB. If Modric leaves then reallocated one of the 30M packets to DM. If we can accomplish it for less, then all the better. Finally, fill out the squad with topo prospects like Comotto and Zeroli, since this will be the “new program” anyway.
All of those guys who are out on loan will be returning. Chukwueze might yet find a role under Glasner or Jaissle should either be employed. Bennacer on the other hand, I don’t know, from the bench he can be useful, but he’s definitely not able to play full seasons anymore due to his body.
That guy knows nothing about football(kelechi), all he’s done all season is make excuses for Leao. He forgets that the 3 man backline isn’t the problem, it’s pressing, the defensive philosophy that was ALL wrong along with recycling the ball in order to relaunch the attacks, with Allegri that was never going to happen because unlike Juventus or Milan in 2011 we don’t have a Trequartista, in 2011 we had Seedorf, Boateng, Robinho and Cassano who could take up that duty, Pirlo didn’t work in that system and was subsequently sold off much like Modric only had a marginal impact in the current system he used, and at Juventus he had Paul Pogba and Carlos Tevez stepping into the half spaces to create, this team is WAY more suited to Glasners stonewall direct football, there won’t be any rest, you’re going to press and run and no dabbling on the ball.
I think Gabbia, Bartesaghi & Saelemaekers’ days are numbered without Allegri.
Je suis contre toute formation avec 3 défenseurs je préfère qu’il utilise un 4-3-3
lol
I wanted Pepi here to deputy/learn under Giroud but the anti-american force was too strong to mention it.
He’s a very good striker.
3 4. 2 1 or 4 3 1. 2 .The former is good but defensive which need a VERY STRONG AND ESTABLISHED STRIKERS while the latter which is familiar with CARLO ANCELOTTI WITH STRONG,SWIFT AND ALWAYS-DELIVERING STRIKERS IS MORE PREFERRED
4-3-1-2 , KAKA BEHIND INZAGHU AND SHEVCHENKO TYPE WILL EARN US RESULTS,REGARDS AND RESPECT.
No one milan players already save, for a while at least. And glasner thats milan management want. He can work without transfer plan. Woww..another yes man ??
Cardinale: “it is a good coach. Without transfer fee, we are ready for next season. Glasner as coach, ramon perez as sporting director, ibra as director of sport. We are ready for next season.”
Milan should hire former juventus coach THIAGO MOTTA.
What, they gave another guy to post under the same name? LOL. Thiago Motta – no.
