Jashari plays full game as Switzerland beat Slovenia – his encouraging numbers

Ardon Jashari’s positive international break continued as he started and played a full 90 minutes for Switzerland on Saturday night.

It was not a good night for Luka Modric, whose Croatia side were beaten 7-0 by England. After the game the midfielder spoke of feeling ‘ashamed’ for the first time in his international career, but Jashari had a much better evening.

Switzerland won again for the third time in the break, beating Slovenia 2-1, and Jashari was named in the starting line-up for the third game in a row. The temporary absence of Granit Xhaka has opened the door for the former Club Brugge star, who was used in the double pivot alongside Freuler.

The numbers tell the story from a performance in which the 24-year-old was very involved. He had 91 touches, completed 75/84 passes (89%) and 3/5 long balls. He also had one shot on target, 33 carries, 5 recoveries and won his 1 aerial duel.

It is a positive sign for Ruben Amorim who always hopes to welcome back players with rhythm and confidence. Jashari has found starts hard to come by since he joined the Rossoneri from Brugge last summer, but his performances for his country are certainly helping him stake a claim.

  1. In other news:
The USMNT defeated Mexico 3-0 as Santi Gimenez had two goal scoring opportunities inside the six yard box and fluffed both chances – one when he lost the ball, and the other when he hit his shot just wide of the goal.

Mexico’s goalkeeper also self destructed, committing two howlers that led to US goals, and then gave up a third goal when the Mexico centerback lost a backpass that Malik Tillman shot in for the third goal.

Musah played the last 30 minutes of the match, looked very solid on defense, and was involved in a foul by a Mexican player which then led to the Mexican player getting ejected with a red card for double slapping Sebastian Berhalter right in front of the referee.

    1. Been a good break with Pulisic tucked away safe at Milan and the usmnt youth movement on display and full of promise.

The big return on Jashari relative to the headache and drama of signing him from Brugge, seems a long way off. But I don’t think he’s been a bad player.

  2. Jashari has been disappointing so far. He showed some signs of brilliance last season especially with that long ball to Leao that lead to a goal against Sassuolo.

But he hasn’t convinced me that he can handle the pressure at Milan. The talent is there but he’s not doing enough at club level and international level.

    1. I watched the game against N.Macedonia and he couldn’t dominate their Serie C midfield. Every single 50/50 situation he lost. And their team is Serie C level, maybe Serie B. He is not a top player, that is it.

      1. This is what it comes down to. He only won 2 duels in 250 min of play. Musah won 2 duels in his 25 min against Mexico…it would seem to make sense to try him in a more advanced role to hide the defensive limitations.

  3. You are harsh and inpatience with your judgement. Just look at what happened to Musa. He was terrible but now the story ………. some players needs time and belief by the coach.
Jashari is good and will prosper. Just watch.
