Davide Calabria has been linked with a departure in recent months as AC Milan are looking to sign a right-back this summer. However, according to a journalist, the captain is certain to remain even if he won’t be a starter.
Calabria has been the captain of Milan since the departure of Alessio Romagnoli in the summer of 2022. However, he hasn’t always been that successful on the pitch and the Rossoneri are now looking to reinforce the team with a new right-back.
The likes of Tiago Santos and Emerson Royal have been mentioned as targets, but Calabria is still set to remain at Milan. At least if the journalist Giuseppe Pastore is to be believed, stating the following about the situation…
“Calabria will certainly remain at Milan. It’s true that Milan are looking for a starting right back, we read about it every day, and in the newspapers there is talk of Emerson Royal. Calabria has also lost his place a bit,” he stated as cited by MilanNews.
Calabria’s contract will also expire in 2025, so an agreement must be reached relatively soon to avoid a tough situation. Being the captain of the team, though, the right-back will likely reach a middle ground with Milan on the salary.

He should remain as a back up with competition for the starting spot so he can elevate his game. But NOT as captain. We need an actual captain and not an avatar.

It’s not about loyalty. It’s about trying to compare him to Baresi, Maldini. Which you can’t. THOSE were captains and excellent in their positions. Calabria is neither.

It’s just crazy after all Calabria done for Milan but there’s Milan fans who mocked him and don’t even acknowledge his contributions.
It’s always sad and depressing every time i see Milan fans who didn’t appreciate Calabria contributions and called him not a captain.
Why does that make you sad? Calabria , the human being is great. Calabria the RB/Captain isn’t Milan level.

Instead of Emerson Royal, its better to get Ian Maatsen as he is not even a 3rd choise at Chelsea. I don’t talk about tiago santos because I never watch his playing.
Maatsen is a LB/LWB and he is going to BvB on a permanent.

He should stay but not as a starter. At the same time Emerson Royal is not someone we should consider. There are better options out there.
Why we don’t try to go for Frimpong from Leverkosen? He has a 40 mil clause, I know is much for a full back but if we want to pay 25-30 mil for Emerson why not sell Pobega, Adli or Calabria and buy a good full back?
Frimpong is good when you play 3-4-3 or 3-5-2.
But there Kayode in Fiorentina that has been good every time i seen him play. He is 19-20 years old Italian and good fit to our tactics. Give Fiorentina Calabria in exchange for Kayode. Its a win win situation.
Calabria probably the last Milan product along with Gabbia who are loyal to Milan and also showed their grinta every time they played.
But i bet the new management wants to get rid of him because they want new shiny toy in the roster.
