Journalist says ‘characteristics’ requested by Pioli were ‘respected’ by Milan management

AC Milan have started the season very well with three wins in three games and the new signings have impressed. Stefano Pioli made his requests clear and the management respected them, as a journalist highlights.

Gorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada worked closely with Pioli to bring in the right players this summer. A total of 10 players arrived after the Rossoneri said goodbye to 14, who were deemed surplus to requirements.

As highlighted by the Sky Italia journalist Fabio Caressa (via SempreMilan.it), Pioli made his requests clear from the start. Most importantly, he got no push-back from the management, who instead got to work on his wishes.

“If Pioli outlined some characteristics that he wanted for the new players, these characteristics were respected by the management. We have seen this because Pioli, who got them early as well, managed to build a very specific team idea before the league rivals,” he stated.

Pioli got what he wanted and the new signings have been able to quickly acclimatise to the Rossoneri’s style of play. Perhaps because they were perfect for the roles, which is the main perk of the management and Pioli working together on the mercato.

  1. Last season signing dont have pioli charateristic request i think. CDK ,origi, florenzi, dest, aster prank. None of them can step up and become established starter player. But if this season fail, pioli are the first get the axed by owner

    1. Last season they botched the renewals of their directors and got players late. Most of them for scouted by the same guy he’s talking to this year in Moncada so this story doesn’t really check out. I think he had more time this year to work so its going well now. If we had Botman we’d be a different team, not to mention the furore surrounding CDK as he wouldn’t have arrived

    2. If CDK is an example, then Moncada was sabotaging Maldini as Moncada recommended CDK (an SS) to Maldini when the latter was looking for an AM which was requested by Pioli. Not only that, Moncada was involved in transfer negotiation for CDK as revealed by the latter’s agent.

  2. Yes, and proved by Krunic’s saga : Pioli clearly said that Krunic is his important player, and management didn’t sell him, instead will offer him a new contract.

    Pioli’s player characteristic :
    1. Smart tactically (Most Important)
    2. Physically Well or even better (For High Pressing strat)
    3. Good at 1v1 (to win control over area of the pitch)

    So Pioli got :
    – Pulisic (Very smart & good at 1v1)
    – Reijnders (Very smart, good physically, high technique)
    – Loftus-Cheeks (Superior Physically, very good ball-control, pretty smart)
And these 3 players already became Pioli’s key-men.

So incoming quality to come :
    – Chukwueze (Superior in 1v1, agile, but haven’t show his “Football IQ”, he only wait the ball at flank or go deeper to ask the ball)

    – Okafor (Well-rounded physicality, decent ball-control, haven’t show his “Football IQ” maybe because he hasn’t get used to be a lone striker)

    – Musah (Superior physicality : fast, strong, agile, good ball-control, haven’t show his “Football IQ”, maybe because his competition is high. He must compete with Loftus-Cheeks or Reijnders. We might see him as starting eleven at Italian Cup)

    – Jovic (Very smart striker, pretty strong and pretty fast, but he lost his touch in ball and i think Pioli will need time to encourage him back to his best)
