After parting ways with Hakan Calhanoglu and Gigio Donnarumma, who both left for free, Milan are looking to lock down some of their players. For example, Davide Calabria and Franck Kessie will both experience in 2022.
The duo was incredibly important for the Rossoneri this past season as they secured the second-place finish. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are, therefore, looking to renew both of them as they can’t afford to lose more key players for free.
In his latest editorial for MilanNews, Alberto Cerruti shared his thoughts on the situation that Milan find themselves in. He explained why the renewal of Kessie is more urgent than that of Calabria, which perhaps is true.
“Speaking of Kessie, it’s obvious to reiterate that it’s urgent to renew his contract that will expire in 2022. Otherwise, don’t be surprised if we get to Christmas and end up in a similar situation to Donnarumma and Calhanoglu.
“With all the respect and esteem for Calabria, who in my opinion should be the new captain of Milan, the renewal of Kessie is more urgent. The reason being that Calabria, born and raised in Milan, would surely not betray the Rossoneri colours like Donnarumma and especially Calhanoglu for a couple of million more,” he concluded.
Both of them are expected to be part of the starting eleven next season as Milan are only working to bring in alternatives, not replacements. Having said that, we can expect the competition to be tougher next campaign.
