Sky journalist highlights ‘important opportunity’ for Leao at the World Cup

Rafael Leao will take part in the World Cup with Portugal and the fans are expecting him to do well. Not just the AC Milan fans, that is, but also the Portuguese ones amid the winger’s great season thus far.

In 20 appearances this season, Leao has bagged seven goals and nine assists for Milan. Most recently, he ended a four-game point drought with a nice goal against Fiorentina, boosting his confidence ahead of the World Cup.

As highlighted by Sky Italia journalist Manuele Baiocchini, as cited by MilanNews, it’s a great opportunity for Leao to shine at the World Cup. Jota’s injury means the Milan man is likely to get the chance from start.

“Jota’s injury has opened the doors for a starting spot. It’s a special moment and I think the Portuguese fans are waiting for Leao as a starter, as a protagonist and as a star. This is an important opportunity to demonstrate that he’s one of the best forwards in the world, even if he already has by entering the list for the Ballon d’Or,” he stated.

Leao’s price tag could increase a lot with a good World Cup and it remains to be seen how the renewal saga will end. In any case, should he decide to leave, then Milan can probably expect quite a high transfer fee.
